No Actually - its not all.

USSF could have followed correct protocol and banned Dempsey for USOC and International matches but they didn't.
Actually the precedent was USOC matches only.

I love me some USMT but I support the Sounders week in week out and this blows.

It does blow... but this is on Dempsey.

Remember, this was an MLS decision and separate of USSF.

Do we know what the USSF ban is yet?

Club or Country - Your decision Clint

Final roster hasn't been called yet...but I'd be shocked if he doesn't play. This is potentially his last major competition.

Despite age, Dempsey is a still a highly productive player............not to mention the grit, toughness and leadership he'd provide to the USMNT going forward. This would be especially valuable to the national team if Jurgen continues to go young with the squad. Experience is a huge factor when the qualifying matches start REALLY meaning something.

My guess is as long as Clint stays healthy and productive, he'll be on the roster in some form or fashion.

Not yet - But USSF will probably only ban USOC and not USMT games.
Of course Klinsmann may issue punishment also...remains to be seen.
However - as the priority in America is the growth of the sport (Club needs are secondary), I can't see any way Dempsey doesn't get named in the squad.

It would be nice if USMT banned him for the first 2 International games (Honduras and Haiti) allowing the Sounders to have him for the DC United clash on July 3rd. 1 versus 2 - Then make him available for the Panama fixture on the 13th.

Also Sounders could say Dempsey picked up a knock in training and can't go.

Let's call it the leagues growing pain.

Last nights game was a train wreck. 100% tactical error on Sigi's part. There is no situation where playing a 451 will work when Lamar Neagle is the 1. We were more dangerous out of the 352 with Darwin Jones and CHAD MARSHALL at striker late in the game.

If we go into Portland without 2 up top, we are going to get absolutely thrashed.

In other news, Ozzie and Barrett could be back for Portland.

In even other news, Clint Dempsey was suspended today from USOC Competition for 6 games, or 2 Years, whichever is longer.

Clint would never admit it, but I betcha he's actually happy about this, means he won't have to play in any Mickey Mouse crap matches at Starfire or some other backwoods USL pitch reffed by MLS rejects for the foreseeable future.

Surprise surprise...

Sounders should give the USOC no focus going forward.
Yes it was important to win a few trophies early on - but in fairness the club should be focused on bigger things right now. Do what United did in the Carling Cup - field the 2nd team/go out in the first round.

Rumor is the sounders will sign Erik Friberg in the coming days.
He certainly fills a need. It also sounds like we won't be signing another DP which is at least somewhat disappointing.

Would you buy down Alonso to add a DP? Otherwise all of those spots are filled, unless I missed the addition of a fourth? I remember negotiations potentially adding a fourth during the Last CBA, but cannot recall if that was added.

Not a chance - he's the hammer that knocks the nail in!

Buy down, not buy out.

We could make ozzie a non-DP and essentially sign a 4th DP.

There is a rumor floating around that MLS will add a 4th "Core DP" for players making under 1m in order for teams to retain talent that has out performed their contract. If true, Ozzie would fit this description. It also lends credence to the rumor we were chasing a dutch international during the last window.

Buying down just means using allocation money to pay down Ozzie's contract far enough to where we no longer need to use the DP tag on him, therefore allowing another DP to be signed.

The thing with this is it's kinda a one year buy down isn't it? Wouldn't we need to do it next year as well? Which means if we don't have extra allocation cash lying around from the SS, US Open Cup (already off the table), etc then we're in trouble with the cap.

4th "Core DP" won't happen this season. Just won't. Maybe next year.

Friberg is the perfect type of player to add right now (he can't play til our July 8th fixture). He is quality, in his prime, inexpensive, versatile and one of the best in the dressing room.

If the rumors are true this is a great signing.

Helps us reduce the miles we put on Pineda, and strengthens the heart of midfield. Improves our set piece ability.

Ozzie ans Barrett should be available. Evans and Gonzalez are game time decisions.

We have signed S2 Forward Andy Craven to a first team deal. He can play tomorrow vs Portland.

Sounders minus Martins and Dempsey are a terrible team. They are not even playoff caliber without those two. They have absolutely no depth and to rely on guys like Neagle, Rose, Barrett, Craven, etc is a lost cause. There's no way the Timbers should have dominated this game like they did.

Every sports team is bad without their stars. They just have to plan for it but it's tough to win without good depth, like you said.
