First series against KC this year. We'll need our A game, for sure.

Probables:

Fri: B. Miller RHP (5-5, 3.18 ERA, 71K) vs D Lynch IV LHP (0-0, 1.5 ERA, 8K)

Sat: L Castillo RHP (5-6, 2.99 ERA, 81K) vs A Marsh RHP (4-3, 3.76 ERA, 46K)

Sun: G Kirby RHP (5-5, 4.05 ERA, 74K) vs C Ragans LHP (4-4, 3.221 ERA, 89K)

Very good pitching staff, outside of J Rod none of the hitters strike fear in the opponent. It’s a good thing the rest of the division is below .500. The Mariners need to invest in the offense or you are just wasting the pitching talent it is being said management doesn’t want to trade any of the pitchers. I am guessing management will wait for the off season to improve the team and just hope the present hitters get their act together

We're in first place with a five game lead and a 36-28 record with a +10 run differential. LOL. Talking about making the most out of a little. It's almost too good to be true.

And yet there are some fans that have full on meltdowns every time they lose. Even when they've won 7 out of their last 8 games. Like anything less than winning every single game is a travesty that couldn't possibly be tolerated. It's pretty wild considering the talent level we have on offense compared to the better teams in the league. 🤷‍♂️

That will start turning heads perhaps one-tenth of a degree if Ms take 2 of 3 from Royals.

Remember guys, I guess none of us know ball.
I used to read the sports section in the Seattle Times every week in the 90s, and, the most complicated stats they would throw at me were slugging and OPS.

I have no idea what BAPIP is, how WAR is calculated, or most of the stat lines which people jerk off to over on Lookout Landing. So, yeah, I certainly don't know ball.

WAR is a bunch of stats compared to average level players. If a position player has a 0 WAR they are "average". It's a sexy stat and for the most part holds up. Tis why I thought sitting Cabby for most of September last year was dumb he had one of the highest WAR on the team.

This isn't correct at all.

WAR stands for wins above replacement, not wins above average. A replacement level player is not an average player. Far from it. If a position player has a 0 WAR they are not "average", they are a well below "average" player, or in other words, a replacement level player.

"The Concept of Replacement Players

Average is a well-defined concept. You sum up all of the observations and then divide by the number of observations. We compute averages every day.

So why don't we compute Wins Above Average rather than Wins above Replacement? When computing the value of a major league player, average is a poor baseline for comparison. Average players are relatively rare and can be expensive to acquire. Average players don't make the league minimum. Plus, not all average performances are equal. A team would pay much more for 200 league average innings than for 50. When a star player is injured, they are rarely replaced by an average player -- usually their replacement is much worse.

That last point is our premise here. Average players are relatively rare and difficult to obtain. Replacement level players, by their very definition, are players easy to obtain when a starter goes down. These are the players who receive non-roster invites at the start of the year, or the players who are 6-year minor league free agents."

This was explained to you last September. Cabby was awful against right handed pitching last year. Like, dreadfully awful. Here's his slash line against RHP, .186/.301/.287. That's very, very bad. Right handed pitchers make up nearly 75% of MLB pitchers. Do the math. It's very obvious why Cabby was seeing limited playing time last September.

Have never been comfortable with Stanek coming in. He's never been a closer, though. Injuries are killing our bullpen this year.

Pitching to the AL MVP in the bottom of the 9th instead of walking him to set up a double play

Breh.
