In the event Hurtt is fired, does Desai take over? Do you want him to? If not then who would you prefer?
Anyone in house will be just as bad. They are all clueless on how to run a top defense. Pete is terrible as a so called defensive coach. Out side of the LOB. Seattle has had one of the worst defenses every year.
IMO the Asst Head Coach title is just in name and to keep Desai from being taken by another team unless it’s a head coach job. Perhaps PC is grooming him to take over when he decides to step downHonestly, the dynamic between coaching personnel is so convoluted, who really knows what anyone does anymore.
Sean Desai’s, title is what Assistant Head Coach? What exactly does that even mean?
Does he assist both offensive game planning and defensive game planning?
What does he think of the personnel Seattle has or going into next season, does he have any say on what players to draft?
Clint Hurtt, has to go. That’s a given.
Who replaces Hurtt and what kind of defensive system can they incorporate is up in the air. Is it still under Carroll’s scheme or does Carroll allow full permission to do whatever the DC wants?
The incoming DC will and probably should be allowed to have a say on the overhaul on defense.
I’m not entirely sure if Desai is the guy, honestly.

I don't think so. Which gives Desai an ideal opportunity to chose his next career move with no strings attached.Could we get compensation for Desai?
Coach Karl Scott is the Defensive Passing Coordinator and Defensive Backs Coach. This past season was his first with the Seahawks. With better backfield continuity and experience, play should be a whole lot more reliable in 2023.
Here is a year old link of what he brings to the Seahawk defense >>> https://sports.mynorthwest.com/1580700/what-karl-scott-will-bring-to-the-seahawks-defense-secondary/
And the following is some excellent insight into what he brings to Seahawks coverage schemes .........
EDIT: .................. this is offered as a review for those who viewed it last year. But more importantly it's offered to those who missed it and spent the last year lost and confused about what schemes and rules they were installing.
Thank you for the info & the link! So we had several coaches in their rookie seasons, not just players. There are schemes, and then there is getting the players to effectively execute the scheme. Not to mention the process for figuring out how to be in the best defense to match up with what the offense is trying to do. Jamal Adams returning healthy for a whole season would sure help with the on-field leadership part.
Hurtt as our defensive line coach since 2017 is directly responsible for the lack of talent on the defensive line. It was his teaching to the defensive line that has us in the position we are in. As many have stated the position coaches were given a lot of input into who we drafted for years, and that lays the blame directly on him for Collier and McDowell. Those who are constantly calling for heads to roll don't understand that it's not that simple. Hiring a new DC isn't going to change anything without personnel changes. I agree that in football, more than in any other sport, coaching matters. But a good coach and a good scheme are not the only things that make for a successful team.
Hurtt has gotten way too much blame for the defense this year. Yes, there were issues, as might be expected from implementing a new scheme with new players. But the biggest problems this season came from the lack of talent in the front seven. No defensive game plan could have stopped the run with the D-line we had. Or the pass. We lost a future hall of fame MLB, and have been without quality interior linemen and pass rushers for some time. We have some nice, complementary pieces in Nwosu and Taylor, but they're not superstars. We all know the state of the linebacking corps. No one in the Seahawk front seven would be starting for the 49ers or Cowboys.
Hurtt was a sought out coach last off-season, and if we didn't promote him, he would have gotten another job. I trust Pete's judgment about his hires. (He was the same person who hired Gus Bradley, Dan Quinn, etc.) Hurtt hasn't proven himself yet, but I don't think you can judge him based on this past season.
We've fixed the secondary, and started to fix the O-line. Let's improve the D-line this off-season. There are not only players in the draft, but there are several great interior D-line players that will be free agents.
I dont feel it is even a question Clint Hurtt needs to be replaced. Yes we have some glaring holes in our Defense, and may not be all his fault, but our Def effort this season was Bush League. If your Def scheme & personnel can't turn it up when needed, and supply pressure, then we best get used to watching track meets like the 2nd half of the 9ers ass whoopin!
