Seahawks trade for Terrelle Pryor

win-win situation.

-competes and wins backup job; don't see this happening though, TJack's show nothing to say he isn't one of the better backups in the league

-comes in and switches positions and provides some incredible size and speed, while also being able to chuck the ball....having him on the field with Wilson and Harvin presents some unique matchup problems that I don't think another team in the NFL can replicate

-keeps niners from picking him up and leaves them with Gabbert as their #2.

-Worse case scenario you cut the guy knowing he was of no use to you and good luck in san francisco.

Personally if he buys in and goes the second option and tries to get on the field at other positions this could be a huge move.

Bum deal? That was one of the very few teams he had any chance of actually getting playing time with, and he blew it with his complete inability to read a defense. He ended up losing his job permanently to a UDFA who wasn't even a good college QB. Pryor was so bad that his team traded for Captain Pick-Six. He was also a whiner about the whole situation.

Obviously you weren't watching the same Raider games I watched (all of them) the only reason he lost his job was injury.

Scout team QB to simulate Kaepernick?

It seems strange to trade for a player simply for the defense to "scout" for 2, maybe 3 games out of the season.

They clearly like the guy, you don't give up a 7th round for just a guy to play puppet QB 2 weeks out of the season, makes zero sense.

Are you forgetting the shit people give up 7th round picks for ALL THE TIME?

For example, trading a 7th round pick for Tyler Polumbus or Stacy Andrews.

And with the picks we don't trade we pick up guys like Jared Smith, Ty Powell, Ryan Seymour, Lazarius Levingston, Jameson Konz and Dexter Davis.

Just because we've had a couple of successes doesn't mean that we should ignore the value of picking up elite athletes. If we picked up a 6'6 4.3 40 QB in the 7th round of this year's draft you'd be calling him an interesting prospect like everyone did with Josh Portis and BJ Daniels, even though Pryor offers far more than both

I like it. It's a very PC/JS move picking up a guy with the type of elite athletic skills you're generally not going to find late in the 7th round. He may not be a great QB but he's a "tilt the field" type of athlete if you can get him the ball in open space. Let him compete for a backup QB spot but also build some plays to get him the ball a few times a game as a WR/TE/RB. If nothing else it's something that opposing defenses are going to have to gameplan for.

Love this trade. I agree with other posters' points:

1) Great simulator of Kaepernick in practice. Really just like Kaep, stylistically, just a little faster.
2) Potential #2 QB for 2015, if he can develop. High upside. Under tutelage of Seahawks coaches, RW, and TJack, maybe he can develop the mental game. He's young. He's been humbled, for the first time in his athletic life. NOW he might be teachable. Before the NFL, he could simply out-athlete the competition, ala Vince Young.
3) Potential for WR (or TE) position switch. Not holding my breath, but it has happened before. He'd probably even make a good safety or linebacker!
4) He would be a special teams beast, if he has the heart for it, and Pete values ST contributors more highly than most other coaches.
5) Keeping him out of the clutches of the Forty-Whiners!! Pryor is the one backup who could come in for an injured/ineffective Kaep and scare defenses every bit as much as Kaep.
6) The cost of picking Pryor up is next to nothing. Why not roll the dice??!!
7) Always comPete! You just never know what the Seattle setting might bring out in Pryor. Not having all those expectations as the savior of a crappy franchise could do wonders for this kid's head and ability to focus.

Out of all this, the thing I see is that Pryor the man, Pryor the athlete, has been *humbled* for the first time in his life. Pryor is now *teachable* as never before. I have to believe that Pete and John have intel, insight on Pryor the man, that makes them feel this is a good flyer to take.

Note that a similar QB that Pete and John *explicitly* passed on is Vince Young. As best as I could tell, Vince Young displayed behavior that reminded me of people I've known with sociopathic personality disorders, but Young didn't seem to have the smarts and cleverness and resiliency some of these people have. Anyway, Pryor has doubtless been screened for such issues by the Seahawks scouts, and given a thumbs-up, so we can assume he's no Vince Young.

A 7th is a pittance even if we do end up cutting him.
