Watching the highlight reel, I was impressed more by number 80, but TP can run.

Make him a utility man who can special teams gun, punt return, wide receive, and hold for kicks. Dudes a freak athlete...

Good use of that last pick either way.

Watch us turn him into a WR/TE.

That would be the most positive outcome, IMO. Pryor makes a successful transition to WR, does not make a fuss about having to change positions, and agrees to re-sign on a cap friendly deal.

From the outside looking in, the chances of that appear slim to none.

Maybe he can be an excellent rebounder ... <NFL translation: jumpball specialist> like Dennis Rodman..and save North Korea?

I doubt we gave up a pick just for a Kapernick dummy for the practice squad. Got to believe PC believes he can convince him that he could play n important role as either a receiver or TE. Not saying it's impossible, our FO just seems to value and take pride in finding diamonds in the rough. Hoping to see him catching the ball.

WR project?... Lots of QBs have made the switch successfully. If he works at it, he could be good.

Steelers used to use Antwan Randle El in some interesting packages.

Its never a bad move to add athleticism at essentially no cost.

Scout team QB to simulate Kaepernick?

It seems strange to trade for a player simply for the defense to "scout" for 2, maybe 3 games out of the season.

They clearly like the guy, you don't give up a 7th round for just a guy to play puppet QB 2 weeks out of the season, makes zero sense.

If you cold give your Elite Defense 2 months to practice against a Kaepernick clone while keeping your back-up QBs on their toes in competition for a mere 7th round pick. Why wouldn't you pull that trigger? The team certainly knows what its doing and knows the risks involved better than any of us.

And like you said there is also potential there to be a WR or TE with his elite athleticism. He's not practice squad eligible but the value is their to strengthen the Defense vs big, strong, mobile QBs.

Nothing to get really excited about but its also a trade that doesn't need entice pages of whining ala hawknation.

The question is how much money will they have to pay Pryor to re-sign him after this year?

If they had signed a rookie QB, they would automatically get him for four years on a rookie contract. Signing Pryor gives them just one year, and then the uncertainty of whether another team will offer more money in free agency or whether Pryor decides he wants to take less money elsewhere in order to compete for a starting spot.

And why add a QB at all when Tavaris Jackson likely has three or four good years left and has already shown the loyalty and willingness to take less money to be a Seahawks backup?

They must think very highly of Pryor. Unfortunately, I do not.

It's not your money, people that are paid a lot of money are making this decision, they have done ok doiung that so far since we have Super Bowl to show for it.

Second he was showing progress in a lousy situation, he has been humbled as only a player can be that has been benched as he was.

I also think given Petes ability to relate with players that we may let him work at QB and since TJack is on a one year deal tell Pryor that the door is open to compete at QB, but the door is a lot bigger at TE and WR to play now, that working on those skills along with QB will secure you a spot if you can devote yourself to playing one of them. This will give you playing time now and a chance to compete with Russell next year if TJack wants to move on as well.

I can see a formation where Michaels is spread or coming out of the Backfield, Pryor at TE, Harvin in the Slot and Rice or say Lockette if here on the other side and someone saying go and who do you cover.

Wasn't Randle El that threw the 53 yarder to Ward in XL?

not gonna lie, pretty bummed you guys got him. hes very talented, but also very raw. my dad is a die hard raiders fan for the past 30+ years, so sometimes i watch the games with him. pryor has a pretty damn good deep ball. hes more athletic than kaepernick, but maybe not as great of a passer. it was hard to judge him with the raiders offensive line/receivers. I was hoping the niners would get him.

Niners have three 7th Round picks, all higher than the Seahawks'. If the Niners wanted Pryor, what were they offering?

Its odd...they gave up a 6th for Gabbert but not a 7th for Pryor? Seems like a natural fit for Kaep's backup

I like the move. They gave up nothing and get a guy that is very athletic and showed signs of promise on a crappy team. Either that or he is this years Brady Quinn....

What? Why him of all Backup QBs?

I wanna know the thought process on this. I like that is very low risk but im sure there is someone better at Backup QB they could of gotten.

My guess is that the 49ers were offering a conditional pick or maybe a 7 in 2015. Seattle offering a non-conditional pick is worth more.

As for the folks hand-wringing over this, I just don't get it. This is the epitome of a move this FO would make. They give up a 7th rounder for a guy with incredible athleticism and plenty of potential, and if he doesn't pan out, it was the 32nd pick of the 7th round. That's about as low-risk as you can possibly get, and the upside is huge.
