Is it unsettling that team is still kicking tires at last minute?

CB was a weakness last year, and it looked to be a dumpster fire this year, with the team seeming to have no answers. Reed was a nice player last year, but we don’t know what he looks like as “the guy” and Witherspoon was always JAG.

Rough times ahead, but I do really like that Pete and company are trusting their own eyes and not repeating past mistakes like forcing Cary Williams when it was clear he sucked. I hope they do whatever it takes to avoid flowers seeing anything but limited backup duty, and really I think if they accumulate enough bodies they should be able to do better than flowers, who is fine as a backup. They need to keep kicking tires, as long as it takes, and yeah I’m prepared for some 400 yard passing days against us until they hit on something.

It really just depends on how they scheme it... I don't think its a given that we are going to see 400 yard days against this secondary...

Do you think Norton can scheme us up if flowers is out there all game?

From what I saw last year, a 15 yard cushion is the extent of Norton’s answer to that question.

I don’t see why they’re not bringing in a guy like Desmond Trufant. Local guy. Has had some injury issues the past couple years, but when healthy can play. Surely he’d be an improvement over some of our guys.

The answer is interior pass rush so QB's won't be able to step up onto the pocket. We have the DE's. Need one more solid pass rushing DT.

The only things I can think of is age and experience. The guys they are bringing in are young and relatively inexperienced. Trufant doesn't fit that. Plus maybe they feel younger players are more coachable. Vets may have their own way of doing things.

Maybe they have Sherm waiting till after week 1?I'm tired of hearing how bad CB is.
Every year I've seen RB,OL,DL,S,SPT and now the new is CB..I'm sorry but with
paying a QB over 30 mill there is going to be holes that need a lot of sealant.
They seem to be turning over every rock for a decent corner..He will be gotten eventually.

Sort of. I'd be much more concerned if Pete and John were not making any moves at CB. At least they are being actively aggressive with these low risk moves.

I think there is a youth movement as well. They want to sort thru a room of young guys that can grow and develop together.

Trufant left Chicago in the middle of August to be with family during his fathers death. It's my understanding that he didn't return to Chicago. Desmond has already been paid $59,379,596 over the course of his career. The Detroit Lions still owe him $3,500,000 in 2021 guarantees ...... regardless of whether he plays or not in 2021.

I'm not hot on our apparent strategy to find a good player among the castoffs of unsuccessful teams. I'd have more confidence if the guys we are looking to for depth were coming from teams with a super secondary and needing roster spots to cover lack of depth at other positions.
