That's all a function of scheme fit and (mis)use. In 2017 under Chuck Pagano he was paired with a similar run-stopping DT in Johnathan Hankins to occupy gaps and the pair domimated against the run. This is clearly how Seattle envisions deploying Woods next to Jarran Reed (who can now slide over to 3T) in their base D. In 2018, under Matt Eberflus (new DC for Indy), the Colts' DT's were asked to be penetrators and even drop into coverage. This is not what Woods is made to be, and Woods was totally mis-cast for that type of role. In fact, Woods actually had the 4th most coverage drops among all interior DL's in the NFL in 2018, per PFF, which is borderline unforgivable. Used the right way, in the right scheme, Woods should flourish again.ivotuk":2esyqj86 said:Don't like the sounds of this
Woods was a big part of the Colts defense in 2017 when they ran a three-man front and while he was a starter to begin the 2018 season working as the nose tackle, he quickly faded into a reserve role.
The veteran was a solid presence in the locker room, but couldn’t make enough of an impact during the second half of the season to warrant another contract.

The $2.25 million one year contract matches the annual cost the Colts were paying. Al Woods saw 52.6% of defensive snaps in 2017 and 35.8% of defensive snaps in 2018. He contributes on special teams. He is a two gap capable veteran signed to compete with the rookie two gap capable nose tackles signed earlier in the month. The Seahawks are now three deep with big strong two gap linemen on the nose.sutz":2l5dl638 said:

Oh and one more thing the Hawks surely love about Woods.....at the 2010 Combine he measured 36" arms and 11" hands. That is ridiculous.
