206 You don't get it. The draft is loaded with very good Centers and guards. Can you at least research?......tons of great analysis everywhere.

DL sucks in the draft this year. The good news is OL is plentiful and we have pics.

I do get it, and I do my research thanks. I am not in favor of trading away the biggest bargaining chip we have in our #1 pick for Yannick when there are other players available in free agency to fill the D line needs...

So it really is your MO to continually take pot shots at people who have a different perspective than you.

Interesting.

Like who?

Like who is a better free agent coupled with that #27 pick?

Well, you gotta factor in the cap, too.

I think the overall argument being made is that it would be more prudent to keep Clowney and #27+59, rather than let Clowney walk and trade away 59, trade 27 for 42, receive Yannick and then have to pay him the same contract you would have given Clowney anyway.

Unless we're talking about locking Clowney up AND acquiring/paying Yannick, which is a cool thought but that's a staggering amount of cap spent on just 4 players in RW/Wags/Clowney/Yannick... it begs the question of whether the money would be there to adequately fill the roster.

Overall, I think it's best to sign Clowney, keep our picks, draft BPA, and sign pass rush depth like Irvin on a short term. If they can get a Quinn or Fowler, that'd be even better and they can come in on a bit longer of a deal. There's a degree of risk involved, however with 2 picks in the second and 27 overall, some ammo IS there to move up and snipe an edge if need be... or even a tackle like Thomas if one falls down the board a bit.

What are the team's principal needs? They are on the OLine and the DLine, specifically at DE and OT.

What are the strengths of this draft? They appear to be at WR and at OT, maybe CB as well. Will there be value at a position of need @ pick 27? Perhaps and perhaps not. Can an OT of potential starting quality be obtained later in round 2 if the trade for Ngakoue is made taking away a late 2nd and pick #27, but returning a #42 pick? It's possible. Accordingly if the trade parameters are as advertised the team could find a Clemons type Leo replacement and already have several base end types here in Green and Collier. Is there a starting RT available at pick #42? I think so if the analysts are right.

To me this is at least a worthy discussion. It would provide a rush end who's proven at 27 so the cap would be well spent vs. a potential draft bust. Is the OT worth gambling upon? i suspect it wouldn't be a huge gamble. The WR or DT next picked could also be special.

It's too bad the draft is weak at DE but a work around seems like a fair idea. Other FAs will be acquired.

This, exactly.

Sure Yannick is a better pass rusher, but are 6-7 more sacks a year really worth your first round pick and sliding down 10+ spots with your 2nd rounder? I would bet that the yearly difference in salary between Clowney and Yannick ends up being less than $4mil per year.

But at the end of the day, none of us know crap so theres that.

Why assume it's a 1st rounder AND sliding down in the 2nd? The other rumors are just as valid since it's all speculation. Swapping the Hawks 1st with their 2nd, and spending one of their own 2nd round picks.

Basically, a late 2nd rounder and dropping from 27 to 42 for a VERY good pass rusher??? Yes please.
The difference between the 27th and 42nd player picked is pretty minor imo. And with recent history in the 1st round for these guys?? I'm plenty happy with having Ngokoue and two picks in the 2nd round still.

Id prefer to keep Clowney for a few million more and still have the 1st rounder still. #27 holds significant value, especially for a team who wants to try and trade back into the 1st round for a player still on the board.

Trading down 15 spots is something they could have done anyway. So they get a PROVEN player by dropping down 15 spots. And only have to spend one of their late 2nd rounders.
I'd love to have Clowney stay too. But this Ngakoue thing would be a hell of an addition imo.
Proven players who are 24 are more important than an unproven player who will likely take a couple years to develop. Just my own opinion.

I've never specifically watched Ngakoue play so can't really say if the player is all that, but as been observed the team would acquire a proven RDE for pick 27 and a swap of 2nds. The player is young and has shown he can play which is more than could be said from the dubious selections available with pick #27 at the position of highest need in this draft. I'd have to think this could be a good trade.

I have to admit I'd like to keep Clowney however I suspect he will price himself out of range and some team will overpay for him. The proven speed rush of Ngakoue is something the team has been missing and the team has several players who may be better suited to play LDE than RDE.

I'm sure JS has thought this over at length and I'd be happy to make he deal as speculated upon.

Here is a link to an article assessing the merits of the player Ngakoue and the speculated trade, it's worth mulling over:

The other rumor said they swap the 27th pick for the 42nd pick. And then send one of their other 2nd round picks to Jax.
Oh well, either way, I'd be fired up to see the guy in a Hawks uniform.
That being said, I really want Clowney to stay, but more and more it's looking less likely.

What if the Hawks are actually interested in a different Jags DE? Say a guy that is 33, comes with a 17.5 million cap hit, and would like to make a splash before he enters free agency next year?

Jags trying to shed cap, and are clearly in rebuild mode.

I would love to see Campbell here, opposite Clowney.

Proven NFL player who's all of 24 years old >>> #27 pick in draft that is very weak at D Line.

To be fair though, you run the risk of missing out on the next LJ Collier!

Paul Gallant believes that Signing Clowney is better than trading for, and signing Ngakoue. He makes a good arguments, saying that you lose a 1st round draft pick, and (I believe a 2nd?) in order to save a few million a year, IF Yannick is cheaper than Clowney.

So you may pay more for Clowney, but you keep your (valuable) draft picks.
First off you are quoting a gallant who is a sports moron. It’s not about saving a few million, it’s about sacks and age. We would swap seconds and give up a first.

Campbell would have a $15m cap hit to the team he's traded to.

The Seahawks can get all 3 of Clowney/Campbell/Ngakoue if they wanted to, but it might mean some cap issues in the future. Maybe they're planning to go all in and take that risk....

Personally hoping for Clowney, Quinn and Campbell since they won't have to give up the high amount of draft capital and $20m+ APY getting Ngakoue.

Would love to see Campbell, he's still pretty damn good. He would clearly need to restructure. Even though someone will tell us he's ancient because he's in his 30's
(relax, it's a joke)

#27 is NOT a first round pick....GET THAT STRAIGHT....Only approx. the first 10 to 15 picks have a first round grade.

It's why they took McDowell, it's why they took Penny, and It's WHY they took Collier. NONE of them were graded first round picks.....#27 is NOT that big of a deal especially when you have 2 second round picks.
No matter how many times you TRY and spin it, #27 IS a FIRST ROUND PICK.
Would I trade away a 1st rounder for a proven player? YES, I most certainly would, but if it meant overpaying for his services, I might pass on going out on that limb IF I DON'T HAVE TO.
Ngakoue has made it clear that he will NOT play for the Jags, so they are going to shop him for the best deal that they can get for him, knowing this, I think Schneider would love to trade out of the FIRST Round, but only if he can parlay it to pick up 2 to 3 more picks, so the giving away of his 1st rounder for a downgrade in picks, AND OVERPAY?

What'll happen is Jags franchise him (YN) and trade him. Whoever gets him has to negotiate a long term deal that'll be at or more than what Clowney gets. So we lose the first pick for what again ???
Caveat: Clowney's the more complete player but Yannick is younger and less often injured.

The only way I see this making any sense is that the franchise tag is still on the table for Yannick Ngakoue (en-gah-kway). That is an important piece of leverage that means his eventual deal will be a slightly better deal than Clowney's will.

That being said, there's no way that contract difference is worth a first round pick. I don't buy this rumor at all, and if turns out to be true then I'll remain highly skeptical of the move until shown differently on the field.
