Damn, I am looking at those number of guys who have those 40 yd dash time like I am drooling over a cupcake!

Its great we got very fast guys. But what's even better is that we got fast guys from all different sorts of height. So its not just the small, fast, quick lean guys. We now got tall, fast lean. Tall fast, big. I am hoping we can keep 6 WRs.

If I had to make my roster, it would be:

Harvin
Baldwin
Richardson
Lockette
Kearse
Norwood or Matthews (one of these guys will need to fight for a spot. Like someone pointed out last year, we need a big physical receiver.)

Norwood is a lock. I think it will be him and *Kearse ballin' for the 4 spot. Rice and Lockette, imo, are the bubble guys. Rice by far the better receiver so that race will come down to availability, imo. Lockette is without question blazing fast and has excelled on ST, but I think there's no less than 6 better than him at WR. So will Pete keep Lockette only for his ST play? It would greatly benefit him if he could also return punts. Why do I not hear his name in that conversation? The scuttlebutt suggests that in the end, it will be Richardson returning punts. If you believe scuttlebutt.

*I think Kearse is certainly the front runner in this race, as well he should be, but Norwood will be pressing him hard for playing time. Very excited about our entire group...1-5 in particular.

Nothing against the guy, but if we've learned anything from this team it is that no one is a lock. This team does not hesitate to cut 4th round wrs if someone else earns the job. Norwood will have to earn it and is far from a lock: very good chance at making the team: yes; lock: no.

Certainly. And you could also apply the same to Harvin and Baldwin. My point is nobody is going to beat Norwood out for the 5 spot. So IMO, if we keep 5, and of course we will, Norwood will be on the 53.

I am a little surprised we haven't heard anything about Lockette returning punts. It says right on the Hawks bio page that he retuned punts in college and averaged 24 yards per punt return. That sounds pretty impressive.

My guess there would be that Lockette is more of a build-up top end speed guy (why he has become a monster gunner) than a sudden guy like Tate or Leon who can make hat first free runner miss. Though an athlete like Lockette would undoubtedly had been such a vastly superior athlete at the level he played college ball that he was able to be a strong punt returner too.

I wish the 40 time would be banned from the NFL.

How else do you propose they measure straight line speed and quickness?
Strait line speed only, you mean. Within the 40 yard dash you have the 10 and 20 yard splits that's meant to measure acceleration in those two frames. Quickness or agility is generally measured in the 3 cone, but I don't think it's really adequate. Too often you see players look quicker on the field than the players with much better 3 cone times.

In full pads, for starters. With a DB keeping with them step for step and mauling them would be a big help, as well. Percy Harvin's one of the few fastest people on the field in a real game in the entire NFL, yet there are literally a hundred or more active players right now in the NFL with faster 40 times. 40 time never tells you anything, sometimes it's an indicator of real game speed and sometimes it's wildly off one way or the other.

The point is, it's an inaccurate indicator often enough to be completely irrelevant and useless as a basis for anything. Similar to how megapixels on a camera has nothing to do with the quality of the pictures it takes...Marketing hype number babble. :)

In my opinion we already had WR's with sick speed in Harvin and Lockette , they should have drafted a replacement for Rice. Lockette can play WR he just needs playing time . Maybe the man from Canada can be that big target WR with speed that replaces Rice we'll see.

Lockette is 29 and has been a fringe backup his entire career. He doesn't need more playing time.

I don't think Lockette makes the team unless Richardson and Norwood fall on there faces . I think Chris Matthews has a better chance then Lockette
Lockett is a monster 'Special Teams' gunner.... Mathews?, who knows if he can break the line-up, so I doubt he has more value thAn Lockett.
