As expected. Never the less good news.

Helps clear negotiation time for additional extension considerations.

Such as ...... Derick Hall.

I don't know if it was expected or not, they haven't done that a lot in the past.

Good move, though. Two of our key players are in team control for the next two years, giving them a lot of time for re-negotiating as they go. The cap hits in '27 are kind of steep, but they have time to work on that.

We’ve not had a ton of 1st rounders worthy for awhile. It would have been a travesty if it weren’t done for these two.

Both of these players are part of our championship team, both need to be kept.

Sadly this signals to me the team and the players are still a bit apart.

That's 45 million right into the cap so they likely need to clear cap room now before signing draft picks or any other outside free agent that isn't dirt cheap so it'll be a priority to get one resigned long term soon before focusing on Hall

Can someone please explain to me the value of (outside the peace of mind to the player) why the Seahawks should sign either of the 2 players to a multi billion dollar contract now versus (Which sounds smart to me) waiting until mid to late season to see if they fall off or get injured?

They're not signing them "now." They just extended their contracts into a 5th year, which is 2027. Doesn't affect the cap now as their current salaries don't change. This gives them two years to figure out their contracts. The cap hits in '27 are significant, which motivates the team to get something done this year so they can use bonuses and incentives to alleviate the hit by shifting things into the future.

Oh, and getting a contract done helps planning for future deals on other players as well.

Current Top ten receiver contracts hover around 38 million AAV. In two years they will top 48 million AAV. Nacua, Pickens, and JSN look to reset the top of the market, and it’s in the Seahawks best interests to extend JSN before Nacua and Pickens sign their deals.

Similarly, top ten CB contacts sit at 30 million AAV. In another two years, they probably top 36 million AAV. With Stingley, Gardner, and McDuffie already having set the market, there isn’t as much urgency here.

Signing them now, to injury guarantees, gives the players some security, going into off-season activities, against the possibility of injury, allowing them to participate fully.

It’s likely the Hawks who want to sign now, and the players who would rather wait for the market to rise. This kind of splits the difference for now.
