"your right I don't know what he will bring to the table right now neither do you but if he does start what does that tell you about the other players and our depth. He's a older lineman we got off the scrap heap so forgive me if I'm not convinced he's a solution to our O-Line woes."

He wasnt saying anything about how great he was. Were you just saying that to ruffle feathers? Why be pessimistic? It's not like PC and JS have a bad track record with bringing guys in! Sheesh

No if this guy starts that means that we have bigger problems than we thought that's my opinion take it or leave it .

All these Lineman acquisitions tells me one thing, we are striving to put a fix in for last year and protect Wilson, were also going after the running game to control the ball more. With new rules and the directive to throw the Flag we avoid penalties by keeping the ball more, when we have to move the chains protecting Wilson is going to be paramount as well. I am not saying that Pete is going to fold on defense, just that we're stepping up the offense and protection since there may be more shoot out type games because of rules being emphasized on pass interference and handing the ball over to teams deep in our end of the field.

I also would like to see us put some padding scores on the board for stupid calls that could change the game momentum.

I think the visions of Ashworth when Ruskell was trying to patch the OL is dancing in some folks head. (That is a poke at HFSD1, I know he is running over to his bar to get a goblet of coca-cola as we speak to wash away the taste of horror he just got).

It can't mean that he's played better than expected? He's 32, not 37, he was once a pro bowler... I'll trust PC take it or leave it!

If he starts anywhere this season we really are in trouble.

Comments like these are so short-sighted and naive. Unless you've watched every Texans football game the last 3-4 years specifically Wade Smith, you have no clue what he can bring to the table.

Your right I don't know what he will bring to the table right now neither do you but if he does start what does that tell you about the other players and our depth. He's a older lineman we got off the scrap heap so forgive me if I'm not convinced he's a solution to our O-Line woes.

Our line the last 2-3 years has been full of guys nobody wanted. Breno was claimed off of the Packers practice squad, Bailey and Jeanpierre were undrafted free agents and Bowie and Sweezy were 7th round picks. This guy may not be a starter but at least think positive and give John, Pete and Tom the benefit of the doubt for finding talent.

Sweezy aside, Cable has not produced results from young OL here in Seattle. He has however, done a mostly terrific job with veterans who stunk for other teams.

Can't wait to see Winston, the guy from GB, and all the other vets the team has brought in. If they can be "average", that would be a big step up from what Seattle had at most spots on the OL last year when they needed to play backups.

It's also possible that they are brining in older vets that are well versed in the ZBS, to accelerate the learning curve and competition of the younger OLmen and rookies.

Last year, almost all of our depth was young undrafted or late round guys. Yea, you can learn from your starters, but with the injuries and turnover we saw, they wouldn't have a chance to teach all that much.

Having veteran players beside you can teach younger guys how to be a professional, how to prepare, and technique.

JS/PC have signed vet OL since they arrived

2010
Stacy Andrews (29)
Ben Hamilton (33)
Chester Pitts (31)
2011
Robert Gallery (31)
Paul McQuistan(28)

McQuistan was 30 last year

I don't know. Is the ZBS so complicated that the team needs to sign vets to run it? Is this a sign of weakness by our personnel guys or coaching?

This team has invested 2 First RD picks and 2 Third RD picks.

Dunno...Something ain't right.

Apparently the OL stunk as a unit in the mock game but i didn't hear any individual players named. I'm assuming this signing was for help at LG but they did note he has experience at left , right & center.

Did any of you doubters watch McQuistan last year.....He was the definition of dreadful. It is impossible for Smith to be worse.

If healthy, he certainly provides an upgrade to the backup G spot which will certainly be needed with bandaid Carp at LG.

I see him as a pretty even swap for McQ if not a little better.

I remember a day when this type of stuff was just roster churn and not an indictment of a positional group.

...and Ding Dongs & Twinkies were made with real cake, shortening, and real cream icing. They actually tasted good then.

I agree with 40oz.; camp body.
