Dickson can easily name his favorite punt — a 69-yard bomb against Denver in Week 1 of 2018 — and says a successful punt becomes obvious immediately.

“It feels like almost nothing has hit your foot,” Dickson said. “It’s like a golf swing; you don’t even feel it, and then you look up and you see it spiraling high up in the air, and it’s a great feeling.”

Dickson also offered some assurance on new Seahawks kicker Jason Myers, who became Seattle’s third kicker in as many years in March.

“He’s a great kicker,” Dickson said. “He’s got a very, very big leg. He makes field goals from very far back at practice and does it with ease. He’s very sound with his form. He’s going to have a great year.”

What a great draft pick this guy has turned out to be. He flat out changes the field position all day long. Huge weapon.

Considering how much guff the draft wienies gave the team for drafting, for shame, a -P-U-N-T-E-R- in the 5th round last year it's pretty clear JS knew what he was doing.

I enjoy watching Dickson and hope the team is able to perfect better downfield coverage so his huge leg and positional punting ability becomes and even bigger weapon this season. To me he got better and better as the season went on and should be even better still this year. His punting was huge last year but at times he out kicked the coverage. Speed and more speed on the ST will help lots. I'd still love to see him drop kick a FG.

I don't get all the Dickson hype at this point???
He didn't lead the league in net punting average, and there was 1 yard net average difference between him and 7 other punters!!

Not exactly "game changing" statistics. Maybe I just expected more, but certainly not HOF numbers he is putting up as he was hyped as being. Meh..... :|

If you play around with that stat chart, some things come out.

Yeah, he was 2d in net yds, to a guy who only played 4 games and kicked 13 times.

He was first in avg yds.

He was 6th in total yds.

He was middling in TB% (18) and IN20% (18) yet 10th of total IN20.

I'll give him a couple of years, of course, but he just brings some excitement to the punting game we haven't seen in Seattle since the Thunderfoot days. :)

Doesn't show up in the stats, either, but I like his directional ability, too.

Another thing that doesn't show up in the stats, as well, is the postition he was kicking from. Our O struggled a lot last year, leaving Dickson punting out of our own end of the field a lot, and he often gets hang time that helps coverage a lot at the expense of raw yardage.

Good points Sutz, but still even if you take gross yards, he is among 6 guys within 1 yard. I don't care about all the spin shots, funny bounces, tough to handle, ect. if it doesn't show up in his numbers somehow then those are just useless gimmicks IMO.

Heck even if he was deadly inside the 20 then that would be great...but there are 13 guys better than him percentage wise (yes I realize Pete's 3 and out offense didn't help him there too).

Again, I guess I expected to see him clearly being the front runner in the punting game, when he is more just a good punter than a great one IMO. And yes....I too remember Thunderfoot Weaver. :2thumbs:
