Jones has said he wants to play here. That means we have to pay him but not overpay. Say 12-15 million per year. If someone goes $20 million he will go there but we get a 3rd round pick for him for a 4th

We get to keep him at market value or a hometown discount is option 1. Option 2 is we traded a 4th for a 3rd.

How is that NOT a win?
I think your estimate of what a "home town discount" will be is somewhat inaccurate.

He's the next guy up, he's gonna' get that bag, and he deserves it. Can never fault a guy for trying to get the most $ he can.
You hear "it's a business" all the time. And that's pretty accurate.

He's projected to get around $15 million per year. He could take $12 million per year because he stated publicly he wants to be here and the Seahawks may use that as leverage. That's a hometown discount. There's only a couple Off ball linebackers making more than the $15 million/year and he is not in their tier, just a step below. Roquan Smith is getting $20 mil/year, Fred Warner just under that at $18 mil/year I think and then Tremaine Edmunds. He is just a step under them which should net him about $15 mil/year. Like I said, he stated he wants to remain here so he may have cost him a couple Million Dollars, thus hometown discount.

I don't know everything, far from it. But I've done enough research and listened to enough podcasts to get a good idea of what the general consensus out there is on a lot of different topics so I don't feel that's far off. If he gets "that bag" he deserves it. But he is priority number 1 here and the interest is mutual.

Players know exactly what to say. MOST of them are not going to just come out and say they want a massive contract. But MOST of them do want a massive contract. Gotta' get that $ while you can.

Using 2024 numbers-

Being a top 10 highest paid, 7th to be exact would be an odd way of saying "hometown discount."

15 would make him the 4th highest paid. For a guy that's never been All Pro or made a Pro Bowl?

I've heard he's wanting Queen money (13.7) and the team is leaning towards Jordyn Brooks money. (9ish)

I hope to be proven wrong, but I don't see Jones making more than 10M. He is good, but again as I see, it not a star.

He should get more than $10 mil per year. He's a top 5 MLB and he's one of the very few on the market in not a great LB draft class. I predict the $12-$15 mil range unless someone overpays and gives him Roquan money. Again, I have heard projections from multiple sources in the $15 mil range. But with his comments about wanting to stay here if he were offered $15 mil and we offering $12 mil and he stays here. Thats called a hometown discount. That last one was directed at subzero

He absolutely will get more than 10 a year. 12 or so per minimum, imo.
It's always easy for us fans to just say that a guy should take less to play here, or the "hometown discount" etc.
Well, he's not hometown, and why should he have to take a discount? This is his first big deal, he needs to get what he can, and I don't blame him one bit IF he's asking for big coin.

Agreed. You’re not getting him for $10 mil unless we get that hometown discount. The market will put him top 5. He’s better than Queen

With the cap increase being a decent amount I think he is worth $10 mil per year easy.

If we could get him for $10 mil/year that would be amazing. But it will cost more than that. Someone said he wants Patrick Queen money and I heard that too. That's 3/$42 mil ($14 mil/year.) Honestly, Ernest Jones is better than Queen

My hope is it's a short term deal to get us by right now, a contract that the Hawks can get out of in a year or two. Let the LB guru find his replacement in the draft meantime. Spend the money on the absolute stars and fill the rest with the draft.

"You can't throw money at a problem" - about the offensive line.
I’m pretty sure you’re taking it out of context. He never specifically said offensive line. He’s partially correct. You imply he won’t put any money there.

The best way to build is mostly through the draft but he also said good offensive line just isn’t available because 32 teams are looking for it. He’s saying you have to draft smarter with the line and develop. That sums up his full quote.

Can't blame anyone from wanting a big contract, or even a max contract.
