I thought this was perfect. They beat ninnirs now we need to beat them and that pushes them both back a game.

I'm with you Les. I'd rather see a division opponent hurt, plus the Niners have an easier schedule going forward than the Saints do.

Then I watched some of that game and the Niners looked kinda bad. The only way they were moving the ball was finding Boldin and letting him abuse the CB that was on him. We can take Boldin away, which kills their passing offense.

We just really need to beat the Saints.

9ers are up against it now. They may miss the playoffs altogether.

NFL.com maintains a frequently updated "Playoff Picture": http://www.nfl.com/playoffs/playoff-picture

Wild Card Round
49ers (6) @ Lions (3)
Panthers (5) @ Eagles (4)

Divisional Round
Lowest winner @ Seahawks (1)
Highest winner @ Saints (2)

If it shakes out like this my money would be on Panthers @ Seahawks and Lions @ Saints in round 2, then Saints @ Seahawks for the NFC Conference championship.

I calculate magic number is two, because iirc we are guaranteed a tiebreaker over sf by common opponents. I could be wrong.
A win versus Saints kill two birds with one stone...gives us common opponent tie-breaker over 49ers plus H2H over the Saints.

HUGE GAME!!

GO HAWKS!!
don't they already have the common opponent tiebreaker?

Nope! We have it as of now because of each team's game with the Panthers. If we beat NO then it is secured.

Division tie-break comes first. If the Niners win out and we lose 3 games including a game against either Arizona or St. Louis then the Niners win the division. That is really the worst case scenario that I find remotely possible.

If we beat the Niners, we clinch the division. No matter what happens the rest of the games.

I was also thinking our "magic number" is two because if we win the next two, we are division champs. However, in beating the Niners, that qualifies as a two-for-one...one win for us and one loss for them. So yes...three.

GO HAWKS!!

If we win our next 2 it equals 3:

2wins for us & 1loss for San Fran.
