Back in Seattle.
In 2001, the Ravens won the Superbowl with a dominant defense and an average QB, Trent Dilfer.

In 2007, the Chicago Bears went to the Superbowl with Rex Grossman as their QB. The Bears didn't win but Grossman was avg at best. Bears had a very good defense that carried them that season.

In 2017, Eagles won the Superbowl with Nick Foles. Again great defense and avg QB at best. Wentz was their QB in regular season and he was average at best QB too.

I believe Sam Darnold is an above avg QB and better than every one of these guys.
Yeah Sam's alright and way better than Geno or RW3 post 2016. I'll take that. My only concern right now is having to face LA next round. I would loooove to avoid that if at all possible. HUGE PANTHERS FAN HERE this weekend 😂

2015 Broncos with an absolutely washed Payton Manning
2019 49ers with Jimmy Garropolo (didn't win but were ahead in that super bowl)
2025 Eagles depending on how you view Hurts

I'm legit starting to think this is a 13 year old keyboard warrior. OR, a Niners fan just trying to push buttons by being a world class dewsh nozzle.
I am leaning that way - but first -

"Show us on this doll where Sam Darnold touched you."

You could also add 2013 - Joe Flacco, Ravens and Colin Kaepernick, 49ers

Until Darnold proves himself, no

First we were told that Darnold needed to win a big game to prove himself

Then we were told that he had to win on the road with the number one seed on the line (since he lost it last year)

Now we are being told he needs to "prove himself" by........(fill in the blank for the new thing here)

Then when he does that, the goalpost will get pushed a bit further down the field

I, and most other football fans not in the hardcore Sam fan club see a player that is gifted and flawed, and who's flaws are predictable and have come fairly consistently to the degree opposing teams effectively scheme against them... And they cost us. The only reason they haven't cost more Ls is because of our defense.

Almost like it's a Team sport or something.

Crazy, right?

I'm not sure anybody really disagrees with you. Turnovers are his Achilles heel, and turnovers can obviously be backbreakers. But Darnold is what passes for a "close to or at" franchise QB these days. Upgrading on him would be very difficult. However, JS needs to do exactly that in this and future offseasons and continue to build out our QB pipeline through the draft (maybe not this year with Milroe on the roster and limited draft capital).
Oh I can think of several (me included) that do.

Again, 14-3, 1 seed, and people STILL whining about Sam, who played a hell of a game.
No matter WHAT he does, it will never be good enough. Just man up and admit it. People complain, and justified, that he turns it over too much, he absolutely does. He plays a game with ZERO turnovers, and you're still whining. FFS.

Only on Dot Net.............
It's almost like fans just look for reasons to be miserable.

They are so used to disappointment that they aren't satisfied until that disappointment happens because they are so used to it.

There are two ways to get a number 1 seed.
  • Have an all great QB and a good enough team surrounding him
  • Have a good enough QB and a great team in other positions.
Darnold is only one of two QBs to have had successive 14-3 seasons. He is no Tom Brady, but he has been good enough to not waste our opportunity with the rest of the team that we have. Every "good enough" quarterback has strengths and weaknesses, Sam's weakness has been ball security, he managed to avoid a TO agaist the 49ers (but the fumbled hand off to Zach easily could have been), he threw two interceptions against the Rams but we were able to win despite that.

Small things, often related to Darnold's performance can change the whole story, if the backward pass that led to Zach's two point conversion had been ruled an incompletion or ruled "out of bounds" as in the Panthers Buccs game and we were sitting on the 6th seed opinions of Darnold would be a lot more muted than they are now.
Sam did a great job in redeeming himself there.

How big of you. If he wins the super bowl you'll say you were wrong. Until then nothing is good enough.
Yeah. Basically he's thinking "No way Darnold goes all the way and actually wins the SB so I won't have to say that I'm wrong about anything 'cause I'm always right and the world revolves around me"

Not holding my breath that the Panthers would pull off the upset.

Besides, the Rams put up 500+ yards of total offense last time.

I don't think they'll be able to do that again in the next meeting.

Not sure who "we" is or who's telling you. So far he has pretty much done exactly what he did last year with Minnesota, so we will see how he performs in the playoffs. Like I said previously the lack of offense isn't just on Darnold but a lot of it is. He's up there on turnovers, both INTs and fumbles. So hopefully we dont see a repeat of his playoff performance last year.

If y'all can't handle anything negative you're free to scroll on.

So what does he need to do to prove himself?

Be specific (and no changing it when he blasts right past it) :ROFLMAO:
