I honestly think that the red zone sequence last week could have been the straw the broke the camels back. I figured Wilson had bought himself a few extra weeks thanks to his performance against the Cowboys, but that sequence was so incredibly abysmal that in four plays, Russ took the last bit of leverage he had earned the week prior and tossed it away (pun intended).
I agree. But it still surprised me that Daboll would have pulled the trigger so early in the season because he could run the chance of ruining his rookie, give him David Carr syndrome.
As far as Russell is concerned, barring injury, we've likely seen the last of him for this season and perhaps the last of him as a starting quarterback. The next question will be if he decides to accept a role as a veteran backup, a mentor to a young quarterback. Some people, Peyton Manning being one that comes to mind, either don't want to be a mentor or wouldn't be good at it.
Once he retires, the discussion will be about his HOF chances. I personally don't think he has a snowball's chance in hell, that these past 4 years ruined any chance he might have had, but I was just reading an article this morning that thinks he's a shoe-in.
