Ahh dude just because he gets an offer from another team and we match doe snot mean he has to agree to it with us, he can not and then we get only our 3 years and he is 28-29 and in his prime and can go any place. If this is the game the FO is playing it is very dangerous and could back fire huge, not to mention the message to other potential FOs. AS to Rams we will see, a lot can happen in 2 years.

Maybe you don't understand the concept of the franchise tag. Even when it's not exclusive, the player cannot choose which team he wants to go to. He can negotiate with other teams. If he gets a team to make an offer, then it's up to the Seahawks to decide if they want to match that offer. If they do match the offer, they keep him, no matter what. If they don't, they get the two first round picks. At this point, he would have to play with us or hold out and not play at all. Those would be his only options.

It won't get to that point, but if it does, then we still hold the ace in the hole.

So find me a link that says a player has to sign a matched offer? So far I have not found it. I find it hard to believe a player can be forced to sign a deal, the NFLPA would not allow that.

Since you seem so stuck on believing only what you are shown, even though a simple google search could actually show you the truth, I'll do the work for you this one time....

For a player carrying the non-exclusive tag, he can negotiate with any other team. Ultimately, one offer sheet can be signed.

Once it’s signed, the situation simplifies considerably. The player’s current team will match the offer and keep him, or the player’s team will not match the offer and collect a pair of first-round picks from the new team.

The two first-round picks given as compensation must be the team’s original picks — not any picks obtained via trade or otherwise.

If you want to research facts, and only facts, here's a copy of the CBA for you to read...

My very few thoughts on this is, if RW's agent presses this past his final year he could be making a huge mistake. If RW has a bad year or is seriously injured he can forget about teams paying more than the Hawks are willing to pay now. A lot of GM's out there are still waiting for RW to fail because of his height. Those beliefs have not gone away and they think he is over due for that to catch up to him. They still say he success is to due to the system or the defense.

On the other hand if JS is thinking RW should be paid as a very successful 3rd round pick then that's a problem.
His record has to erase any thought of where he was drafted and I can not believe JS would even entertain that idea but if he is then he is just wrong.

Now let me be straight like all of you I have no knowledge of the negotiations so the above is merely speculation on my part except for the part about what some other GM's are thinking. I think RW wants to stay in Seattle but is playing his part in getting the best deal possible. I maybe wrong but I don't see this getting into training camp.

Sure, the Browns or Bills might have the money to come up and offer him the moon and snag him. Actually, the Bills have cap troubles, nevermind. But if you're Russell, do you really go to CLEVELAND over a handful of millions? Really? That move would hurt you substantially over the long haul financially.

I had a guided fishing trip a few weeks ago. I got into a discussion with one of the guides about the hawks. As it turns out he guided one of the hawks coaches " i wont say which one".

He told me that the coach told him that wilson was asking for outrageous money and that he didnt think that a deal would get done. He also said that public perception is that wilson is a film junkie, but he said that wilson almost never watches film.

Russell Wilson will make more money after football than he could possibly make playing.

He does have to maintain his image, but these silly rumors won't affect it. A poor season or change in character would, but this crap is noise.

Okay, I gotta remember to watch dates on these. You made me google to find out how the Seahawks acquired Allen.

wow I did not even look at the date I figured the poster did.

I did it intentionally. Schefter isn't always correct, which is why i posted it.
And it was a beautiful thing to behold, as the slow swimming sea lion snapped at the gliding salmon embedded with a curved and barbed piece of metal attached to a long thin piece of polyethylene fiber.
BRAVO !!!

He said alot of other cool things about players , but dont really apply to this topic. It sounds from the discussion we had that they have offered him a fair deal and are not likely to pay wilson top qb money.

That I don't believe for a second. Everything the coaches and receivers have said about Wilson is that he is obsessed with film study and that he meticulously grades each of his receivers after each game and sends them each his thoughts about how they can improve and what they face in their next opponent.

You don't offer a player a $20+ million a year contract unless you know he is dedicated to improving his craft.

Holycrap guys I'm on my phone and you are giving my thumb tendonitis from scrolling. We have Wilson for the next three years regardless of any and all scenarios. Period.

Can't you fanchise a QB for three years? I know the last year goes up a bit, but that leaves Seattle with the power to control Russell Wilson's services for another four years.

Wow......This is so far fetch, I can believe that maybe Wilson is asking for an outrageous number that I can see be a possibility, but I will not believe that he almost never watches film. So some Seahawks players are just keeping a lie for Wilson to make the public perception that he is a film junkie, this I don't buy. If that's the case you wouldn't have Turbin saying that Wilson would watch film all night while he was trying to sleep when they were roommates during their rookie year, or that he went in early mornings to watch film and ET even said that him and Russell would have a race to see who gets in the film room first and that was said during last offseason.

Im just relaying what i heard not stating it as fact.

I think if you heard it from the actual coach maybe I will give it some creditability but since it's from a guide who had a coach then who knows what the guide's intention is.

He seemed genuine enough, but who knows. He could be right or wrong. The thing is anybody who doesn't work for the hawks is just making assumptions and we will likely never know the truth.

"Up a bit" is a "bit" of an understatement.

The year 2 tag is 120% of the year 1 tag. The year 3 tag is 144% of the year 2 tag.

Taking a $20M year 1 tag (low, but good for an example) year 2 would be $24M and year 3 would be $34.56M.

Gotcha, but 3rd year can be done for the QB position.

Just wanted to point out, the Browns have only $18 million in space for 2016 according to OTC, and according to Spotrac, they only have $6 million. They'd have to offer $25+ million to have any chance of getting Russell, and give 2- 1st round picks to the Hawks; it's not likely they would be a team that tries to get him.

That is the ENTIRE point of the non-exclusive franchise tag. Let the player test his value in free agency, but retain the right to match the offer. Otherwise, why franchise him. What you are describing is regular free agency.

How pissed would you guys be if Wilson and the Seahawks had a deal in place contingent on the firing of Bevell but the Seahawks wouldn't do it? :stirthepot:
