No that would be Walter Jones, Steve Largent, Cortez Kennedy, Kenny Easley, Sherman, Kam, all ahead of him. Wilson played an important role no doubt, those other guys I named created a new standard at their positions.
Yeah I disagree but you're entitled to your opinion.

Good grief. Between the LOB and Marshawn, Matt Flynn could have been our QB. Russ was irrelevant to our super bowl win (the game itself, not the season) - the defense outscored the Broncos. Russ was the right piece at the right time - the dual running threat of Beast Mode or Russ gave defenses fits. Don't get me wrong - Russ was a very good player for us. But we tend to be blinded by the 4th quarter heroics and ignore the wretched offense we had in the first through third quarters. At one point the Russ-led offense went 20+ games without scoring a TD on the opening drive. I don't know the record for that kind of futility but I used to want to throw things at the screen during the first quarter of games. Give Russ his props but he's not even the best QB in franchise history, much less the greatest player.

Yeah I think this take is crazy. Go back and look at Wilsons stats during the SB run. Go back and look at GWD's. Lynch gained almost a yard per carry because of the threat of Wilsons running ability. Now we don't win a SB without those guys either but Russ was incredible back then.

He's not the best QB in franchise history? lol Dude come on its not even remotely close the gap between him and #2. When you say stuff like that its hard to take the first part of your argument seriously. Hate Wilson all you want but that is ridiculous.

What a ridiculous take.
I've been watching the 2013 season games on YouTube the last few weeks, and Russ is a monster, playing at superhuman levels. Most of these games were a complete offensive domination, many of them blowouts, and RW was the big reason.

You missed a few: Earl Thomas, Marshawn Lynch, maybe even Steve Hutchinson. I think the criteria for greatest Seahawk is how great/dominant a player was at their position relative to the rest of the league. All the players you mentioned were so and are HOFers or certain HOFers with the exception of Kam who I personally think belongs. Earl Thomas, Lynch, and Hutchinson were also great/dominant players at their position relative to the rest of the league and all are or should be HOFers. RW was a very good QB, near the top in his prime with his style of football. But there were QB's who were clearly better than him when he played, Brady, Manning, Rodgers, etc.., and RW is not a HOFer, or at least not an upper room HOFer if he does irk in after many ballots.

I'm not putting RW down, but just agreeing with your perspective.

Its a reasonable argument and I'm not saying you're wrong. I will always weigh certain positions heavier though and QB is at the top of the list. For a 10 year period he was often a top 3 guy consistently and his numbers over that period are mind boggling. Was Hutchinson better based on his position? Sure but I'm not going to put a guard above a QB especially considering how stressful and hard it is to be near the top at that position for so long.

Again I'm not saying you guys are wrong, I just see it differently.

Maybe the greatest player in franchise history and we don't win a SB or reach two without him.
…which has nothing to do with the thread topic.

He’s literally getting called out by the media as well yet again for having zero self awareness. Just say I’m thankful for being a Giant, and not spin some tale about how he made the decision to play there because of a certain receiver…when the whole world knows his leverage days are OVER. He’s a phony and his legacy has all but faded. Yes it is a sad reality…he was part of Seattle’s lone Super Bowl, but that doesn’t excuse his ridiculous behavior NOW. How long are we supposed to bow at his feet? Sorry, he’s brought every ounce of this on himself.

Yeah, it's a different perspective, and I agree about the importance of the QB position. I still see football as the ultimate team game, though; and I think when considering things like the HOF, or AP All Pro teams, or even the all decade teams, the awards/honors that carry the most prestigious recognition for individual players, positions are considered or weighed equally, and more or less reflect a players performance relative to their peers at the position. All the players myself and that other poster mentioned, I believe, are on their respective all-decade teams (with the exception of Kam) whereas RW isn't. He also, to my best recollections, has never received a single MVP vote, an award that steeply favors the QB position.

But I do get your perspective. We just happen to see it differently, even though I agree with the importance of the QB position above all others, perhaps in all sport.

Adding the rest of those that put players in Wilson does not even make top 10, he had skill but he was devisive, alienating, self entitled and put himself above the team. That does not make him a good player, a good player makes the team better, he did not elevate anyones game, the team elevated his, just look at what happened in Denver, Pittsburgh and soon New York Giants. You rate the QB position highest amongst all others, well Wilson did'nt fulfill his role as a leader, team mate, and team unifier, he had great safe stat lines granted.

Yeah I just think that's wildly overstated and to say he didnt elevate the team when we had multiple years of zero running game, zero line help and a bad defense and he accounted for 97% of our touchdowns and leading us to 10 wins multiple times is absolutely him elevating the team. Him adding nearly a yard per carry to Lynch's career number because of his running ability is absolutely adding to the team. Him not turning the ball over at a historical rate while making big plays at a historical rate is adding to the team.

Trying to say look he wasn't great at the tail end of his career(still put up much better numbers than Geno lol) as proof he wasn't good in his 20's is a terrible argument and the Giants and Denver had massive internal issues that weren't all him. All of his teammates from those stops love him too.

Man I can't take something seriously when you say Wilson elevated no one lol that is ridiculous. You're entitled to it but its crazy talk to me.

Like I've said a million times in here, I have zero issues with people pissed about how it ended, how he left all the BS that went on. He definitely deserves a ton of criticism for his role in that but when people start to say yeah he sucked even in his prime when its obvious people are only saying that because they hate the guy then I have a problem with it.

Russ is one of the best to ever do it at the hardest position in football and the most important position in football. He played through multiple injuries, never gave up and even Lynch who has alluded to Russ being a little weird and different than him told Robinson Wilson was one of the best teammates he ever had a a warrior on the field. I'm going to take Lynch's thoughts on Russ over angry fans every single time.

He’ll understand the damage he’s done in the past 5-6 years to his legacy once he’s passed over for the HOF…then and only then will he get it.

It's interesting to see the reports coming out of the NFL collusion hearings about what Russ was demanding when he was traded in 2022. He wanted $350 million fully guaranteed over 7 years out of the Seahawks.

Because that article may be behind a paywall, here is the Seaside Joe summary:

Of course, the Broncos were lucky that they didn't give in to those demands. It would have been disastrous for the Seahawks, to say the least.

And likewise I get it from your end too. I mean Largent was arguably the best at his position when he retired or in the conversation. Walter Jones is a top 5 guy at a position that is almost as hard and valuable as QB, Sherman who I think fans also underrate because he's a cornball too, has some historical numbers to his resume.

But the MVP argument which many in hindsight would now say he shouldve won outright when Cam won it and other HOF QB's don't have votes either and Russ did it against the best QB era for elite guys in my opinion in Mahomes, Brady, Rodgers, Cam, Brees etc. I also think multiple times he absolutely should've gotten votes but being in the PNW the east coast tends to ignore us. Him being top5 in passer rating is pretty impressive when you look at the list even if passer rating isn't someone's favorite metric. I went and looked at his years with Seattle and was surprised at just how good he was statistically when you look at it compared to other elite guys during that time.

Anyway I'm not trying to change your mind because you could ask me in a week and I'd say Jones, Sherman, Largent etc lol. I think I said it earlier the only argument in here I have a big problem with is guys trying to tell us that Russ was never that good, that is ridiculous to me. Want to say all the guys listed above are ahead of Russ? I may not agree but I don't think its a bad take either for sure.

I think of Zorn and Kreig and Matt as uniquely distinguishable quarterbacks.

But, that's not how I see Russell Wilson.

Russell ran his own entertainment show built on top of the foundation of a competitive team.

That might be a unique and one off view. But I doubt it.

Who truly gives a Ratz Azz about longtime since becoming a former Seahawks player. This is now to be the 4th season he's gone. I could care less about Wilson than I care about Rodgers.

Evidently, a lot of people, including me, find RW to be an intriguing human interest story, one that keeps on giving in its own humorous, incredulous, and transparently affected way. The fact that he was a big part of the most successful era of Seahawk football probably heightened my own interest in his story arc, though his reputation in such ways extends beyond the realm of Seahawk fandom.

Every once in a while some player on the stage of contemporary life similarly engages my interest and curiosity beyond the norm. Elizabeth Holmes and the Theranos story was another character and story arc that intrigued me in such a manner. Sometimes people just find certain individual dramas captivating of their interest for reasons of their own. And that's their prerogative. To each their own.
