Good grief. Between the LOB and Marshawn, Matt Flynn could have been our QB. Russ was irrelevant to our super bowl win (the game itself, not the season) - the defense outscored the Broncos. Russ was the right piece at the right time - the dual running threat of Beast Mode or Russ gave defenses fits. Don't get me wrong - Russ was a very good player for us. But we tend to be blinded by the 4th quarter heroics and ignore the wretched offense we had in the first through third quarters. At one point the Russ-led offense went 20+ games without scoring a TD on the opening drive. I don't know the record for that kind of futility but I used to want to throw things at the screen during the first quarter of games. Give Russ his props but he's not even the best QB in franchise history, much less the greatest player.

No that would be Walter Jones, Steve Largent, Cortez Kennedy, Kenny Easley, Sherman, Kam, all ahead of him. Wilson played an important role no doubt, those other guys I named created a new standard at their positions.
