I think Giants protecting Russ last night may actually have hurt him. Dart has been looking pro ready and was spot on from the git go last night, so they only gave him two series. The best part for Russ was that the two QBs behind Dart also looked good.

Russell Wilson played a HUGE role in our Superbowl win and almost won. That is beyond dispute.

With our 2013/2014 team, if we replace Wilson with Rodgers, Stafford, Cousin, etc., Would the result be different? We will never know., will we?
I ran across a YT video called "What really happened in SB48", with rapid series-by-series plays and timeline, and what surprised me was...

Russ made a surprising number of clutch throws on 3rd down to keep drives going. He looked really sharp, because he was "ON" during that game. Russell converted 4/5 of the first 5 3rd down situations with well-read and well-placed passes, and on the one 3rd down not converted, had a scramble that came up inches short.

I think over the next few seasons, the rest of the NFL DC's developed a book on how to confuse and fluster Russ and make him less effective, e.g., 2-high safety looks. Combined with gradual erosion of Russell's elite quickness and escapability, it's led to the "Mr. Limited" we see now.

I was very impressed with Jaxson Dart in the Giants vs. Patriots preseason game. Dart should be the starter over Wilson, IMO. Will be interesting to see what Daboll and the Giants do. I do think RJDriver's call that Russ starts the first half-dozen games against last year's playoff teams is probably what happens, then Dart gets elevated to starter.

"WHAT HAPPENED IN SUPER BOWL 48"
Russ completed 4/5 passes for first downs on the first 5 third down situations. Surprised me because of how he became "Mr. 3 and Out" later on. And he was sharp on 3rd down the rest of the game as well.

How would that be good for Russ?

I watched the highlights of the Giants-Cowgirls game from Sunday....... Holy. Crap. Russ had his moonball lighting up the Cowgirls. A couple of receivers including malik nabers were running all over that secondary. Russ was also making the kinds of throws that he's been criticized for not being able to make (including by me), medium routes over the middle. I was pretty impressed (bearing in mind that I was only watching highlights).

Yeah, they lost on a Russ interception.....but it sounds like there was a miscommunication between russ and nabers on that play. And they wouldn't have been there if the Cowgirls had any other kicker in the league trying to make a 64 yard FG at the end of regulation.

For me, the jury is out -
- is this a fluke game showing the Russ of old, and giants fans are going to be severely let down in the coming weeks?
- has the Giants coaching staff done what three OCs (including "offensive genius Sean Payton) on two previous teams have failed to do - figured out how to effectively use Russ in 2025?
- does the Cowboys defense just absolutely suck?
- or some combination of the above?

I've had my fun mocking Russ for the past few seasons, but while watching I was reminded again how darn amazing his deep ball is. And hey, we'd love to get another Seahawk in the Hall of Fame, right? Here's hoping that he can resurrect his career in NY.

RW had a good game. No doubt about that. But good Lord...did the Cowpokes defense suck eggs. They badly missed Parsons on the pass rush, and their defensive backfield kept getting beat on those vertical routes. They needed prime Earl Thomas to keep from getting beat over the top. The Cowpokes defense ranks near dead last the first two games of the season. They have a lot of work to do on that side of the ball.

Yeah, Russ balled out on Sunday against the Cowboys. Hard to tell if it was a sign of things to come or a one-off. The Cowboys' defense isn't any good, and they were without their best cornerback, Daron Bland. Their other corner, Trevon Diggs, is coming back from a knee injury, and he's been terrible so far. But Russ's play was more than just playing a lousy defense.

Not sure Daboll is good enough to resurrect Russ's career, but he's probably better than Sean Payton who tried to get Russ to play his way, instead of playing to Wilson's strengths.

Sean Payton would have acted the same way if the QB was 2 time MVP Lamar Jackson, tanking an NFL team's season in a battle of egos.

Offensive, yeah, genious, not so much.

The Cowboys pressure rate is horrible without Parsons, George Bland
the all-pro in the backfield missed that game as well..
I'm not impressed with Me3 against a shitty D playing man instead of
disguised zone shells which mess him up.
It's like they just gave him a gold ticket to have a big day.
I'm not fooled by his numbers or the moonball that shreds man to man Ds.

Bountygate creator and pill popper payton.

Cannot stand that guy. Most punchable face in the NFL.

I didn’t see anything but the highlights. Were the the Cowboys blitzing to get pressure and leaving only one safety? The way to beat Russ is to run 2-high safeties. His moonball is reciever-friendly in man (you just stack the defender and pace yourself to let it drop in the bucket), but it’s easy to defend when there’s help over the top (like fielding a punt).

We lived with this for a decade: 3-and-out, 3-and-out, 3-and-out, chunk play and points! Lots of highlights, lots of yards, and - if the Giants don’t have a LOB-level defense — lots of demoralizing losses.

This is who he's always been (since reverting to RussBall)...big numbers, quick scores and 3-and-outs, about a .500 record including absolute heart-breakering losses. Is anyone surprised?
