I think someone needs to have a TV show on Sunday nights called "the worst ref/crappiest calls of the week". Just to showcase crappy calls like these and give some accountability where it is due. Maybe then Refs won't want to be that guy on Sunday night and perhaps if a ref is repeatedly featured on that show, he may not have a job at the end of the season. Just a dream of mine LOL

I was saying exactly that during the game. There should be a show that showcases the worst calls of the week. Then maybe the refs would work a little harder to make the right calls. At the very least, it would show how the Hawks get screwed every week.

LOL maybe it could work. I would totally watch that show. It could be kind of like the C'Mon Man" segment, only titled something like... "Seriously C'Mon Ref?"

You can't hit him high, you can't hit him low...It's becoming painfully clear the only answer to these ridiculous calls is to make it 100% illegal to touch the QB. Then, when I'm sitting in some foreign bar, surrounded by soccer hooligans calling American football a p*ssy game, I will be able to agree completely.

Sorry Mike...that sack shoulda' made you some money...instead, you hurt the team (LMAO).

as a falcon fan i dont agree with the call or the rule either, it's safe to say that the replacement refs officiated the games better than the NFL refs do yet every chance the commentators got to dog the replacements they did. Goodell is single handedly effin up the league.

It's a legit flag, and if they didn't call it for DEN than that's unfortunate for them and a poor job by the ref for not calling it. It's not the most fair penalty, but it's in the rule book.

What rule is it, to tackle grabbing the ankle.. really. Show me the rule!

Phillip Rivers was just sacked by the ankle, no flag. The refs blew it against Seattle. The rule is you can't dive into legs, not that you can't trip a guy up.

Refs misjudged the call and were wrong there. But the roughing the passer if you hit the knee is a legit penalty whether you agree with it or not.

IMO, 99% of the time that play occurs this year no penalty will be called. Hopefully they let the men officiate during the playoffs. That's all I have too say about that.

I thought he started to wrap him up just below the knees and his hands slid down his legs to his ankles. If he had just grabbed his ankles there would have been no penalty. We did that seveal times last week.

I think they thought from their angle that he had dived at his knees.

Rolling into the weight bearing knee as a QB plants for the throw is a monumental difference from a defender crab crawling and corralling a quarterback's ankles. A lot of estrogen went into that call if you ask me. But since nobody asked, I'll sit here silently and enjoy the beat down the Seahawks just put on those Atlanta Falcons!

Who cares who is to blame.

The rule sucks.

The ref misinterpreted the rule and threw a crap flag today.

either way it sucks.

Not sure why you are trying to defend NFL refs, who have been terrible to us this year..

Yeah it all sucks, but the point is you give and take credit where it's due. Just cause they haven't done good in your opinion is irrelevant to the conversation. I'm defending them because they deserve the blame if you believe they missed the call, but not the actual rule itself where people are giving them flak for. It's just being fair.

They deserve the blame because they are incredibly inconsistent week end and week out and because of that, it at times looks like the refs are trying to call penalties on the Seahawks. The NFL has already admitted mistakes this year, our only loss of the year had horrible calls throughout the game, I think it's the worst I've ever seen. The NFL needs to train the same thing to everyone and they need off season training.

The interpretation of the rule by the refs was retarded.
Bennett was getting pushed down from behind.
He didn't "hit" Ryan's knee area at all. Basically, while crawling on the ground, Bennett grabbed the back of Ryan's calves with his arms and tripped him up.
Plus, it was from the direct front.

I understand what the league is trying to do, to avoid hits from the side against Quarterback knees that would tend to blow knees out, but the interpretation applied to this play leaves the defense no room to play the game. Plus it's a pussy interpretation.

Just like the pussy "defenseless receiver" bullshit call on Bruce Irvin. Call it an unnecessary late hit, OK, but the on that one, the receiver had turned around and set a base and was fully able to protect himself.
NFL, please don't turn our game into a pussyfest.

With this new kindler, gentler era of NFL football I'm surprised Roger Goodell still allows offensive lineman to cut block.

To anyone trying to dismiss the ref's you are wrong. Pretty much the exact same call came against the Niners the next game but the difference was the ref's got together and discusses whether they believed it was intentionally trying to maim or not. They decided it was not and announced no penalty.

I called BS in this game very early and text-ed a friend how much I hated the call. That text was about the call against Carolina for a hit on a defenseless receiver. They could have potentially called helmet to helmet but that is not what they called and later in the game we had the exact same call against us.
Today's game was called evenly but with some idiotic call's that made the NFL just look stupid.

This game was not a game the NFL decided to help one team or he other it was a game where the officials were trying to interpret a new emphasize rule (of the day) and got it wrong on multiple occasions for and against us.

Looks like we're on the same page on that one. I like your use of the description of "crab crawling" to describe what Bennett was doing. It's like, "the QB is right in front of me as I'm on the ground--am I not supposed to grab him, just lay there and let him throw?"
Absolutely nauseating to see that called a penalty.

I agree that "hitting" a QB at the knees is a legitimate penalty but that is not what Bennett did. He grabbed him at the knees. That's tackling and should be legal.

The penalty on Bennett where he sacked Ryan by the ankles and was called a penalty is total BS. Peyton Manning was just sacked in a very similar manner and there was no flag or mention of it.
Saw the same, it wasn't like he was hitting him but just wrapping his ankles up.

He was lying on the freaking ground, CRAWLING towards the QB when he did it. Most pathetic call all year.
