Ehhh, in order of what prevents gay players from coming out, I think it causing problems in the locker room is actually pretty low.

IMO the distraction instead would be the media turning it into an insane circus.

After that it's bigoted fans, or fans from other teams who would just be opportunistically bigoted causing a distraction.

I don't think Rhodes and Collins not getting signed this year (and all things equal both of them should be on teams right now, IMO) was because of locker rooms as much as it was about avoiding the constant distractions of the media and the potential distractions of fans.

It's why there was the push last year to have a bunch of players come out at once -- the individual locker rooms weren't what people were worried about, instead they wanted to divide the weight of the media circus and have a bunch of people out at once to make it easier to shame disapproving or opportunistically homophobic fans.

Another factor of course is that heck, coming out is just a hard decision for most people. Many people don't ever do it.

For Rodgers there might also be the additional variable of him being a devout Christian (as is his supposed ex, fwiw).

In any case, my basic feelings are if true, I imgaine it's pretty sh!tty to not be allowed to make the decision to come out or not on one's own terms. So, not so much a "who cares?" response to this, and more of a "none of my business, or our business" interpretation.

Well said.

Big frickin' whoop if it is true. Does that mean he's NOT one of the greatest QB's in NFL history? I hope this stupid story goes away soon, but of course it won't with the lowest common denominator majority in this country that thinks the Kardashians are actually important enough to pay any attention to at all... I hate the "stupid" majority of people in this country...

I seldom comment on these threads. But I will this time as the Average NFL Fan

I don't care.
Unless someone is a criminal , evil or similar it should be news worthy.
I just could care less who he spends his time with.

I hope it's true and he comes out. He's a huge name and a bigtime player. His locker room would have no choice but to accept him and the whole country could get past this business. It will only be a big deal until a player of his caliber comes out. Then it will blow up for a bit and all of a sudden, it will be nothing. Then, all the other gay athletes can come out and live happy lives and we can all start looking for the new minority to ostracize.

What a crushing blow to all these big bad NFL'ers if one of the best among them likes men. I don't really care. He's going to be a 1st ballot hall of famer and he is insanely good. If I didn't have my own man crush on Wilson, I'd happily take him on the Seahawks.

Aaron, we'll always have the fail mary. They can't take that away from us.

I hope it's true just so we can see some ensuing shenanigans. I don't give a crap if he's gay, but if him coming out results in some juicy drama I get to read about from some of his teammates or something, then I care more about my personal entertainment.

I can give you Kerry Rhodes, that's odd to say the least. Dude's a really good player.

Collins not so much, Collins was lucky to make rosters in his time in the NBA, ontop of that he's 35. A 35 year old, lucky to be considered journeyman center in the NBA, its no surprise he wasn't signed.

Now we know why he wanted to get drafted by San Francisco, not that there is anything wrong with that.
See what I did there?

Sigh.

It's sad that this stuff still qualifies as "news". I mean seriously, who cares who he loves?
Agreed even though I disagree with homosexual behavior personally it's none of my business if he is and doesn't change my view of him at all.

If this were to be true, Aaron might become the anti-Tebow. And I'm sure some portion of the National Media (People) will definitely pass judgement on him. It is indeed sad that part of the American society feels the way they feel about people who have different sexual preferences.

Who cares? It's none of my business what someone else does in their personal life. Straight, gay, bi, etc etc, none of my business.
The only thing I care about is if he and his team come to c-link this playoff season, their season will end here!

No doubt this muck was stirred up by some douche-bag 49er fan/journalist. Just the kind of pissy thing we expect from journalists who follow California based teams. They are the toilet scum of the sports scene.

Whether he is, or isn't, it's none of their effing business, and they need to respect his privacy on the matter.

Just like how the LA Times broke news of the Tosh Lupoi incident a week or two ago. Like how the hell wuld the LA Times out of everybody knows that Tupoi lended money to a kid from Washington State..?

No, but it makes for better taunting.

OMG I hope not... Then we would be crowned the "Douchiest" NFL fans of all time! C'monnnn Man! Especially since we're considered one of the, if not the most, "progressive" cities in the world... Leave that crap to Carolina!

Fact is this year Seattle surpassed San Francisco as highest Gay population in the US, at least for females. I think in general the Male population mark is still in S.F. So think about it the two cities are not as far apart on this issue as you would like to think and it would be sad to see a game day issue come up about oreintation in the stands between teams and fans alike.
