You may be right but multiple reports have said John had a couple trades lined up and Pete shot them down because he did not want to trade Russ and he wanted to salvage the relationship. That would make sense to me because while its been the norm to claim Russ held the team back or whatever but the fact is his first ten years in the league are in a very, very small minority for how good he was and the team as a whole. Makes sense that Pete would want to keep him and make it work.

But again I really don't know, your take seems reasonable too so it may very well be true.

My rule #1 is....don't pay much attention to the "reports" unless they are back up by a creditable source....and "anonymous" is not a creditable source.

Sports media is the birth of "Fake News". How it often works is Blogger A writes an article based on speculation. Blogger B claims "their source tells them...", with their source being Blogger A. Media picks up on the high circulation of these stories and continues its spread, especially if a "buzz" is created over the story and it is believable. For instance I just read an article 2 days ago from GiantsWire that said DK Metcalf would be a great acquisition for the Giants before the trade deadline. Of course there is no mention that it is very unlikely that DK wants to leave Seattle or that the Seahawks would even trade him. If the article took off, we would be hearing today that DK was on the trade block. Sometimes the article may even be based on a "leak" from a player's agent in order to increase marketability of their client.

I have it on good sources it was Russ that shot down a trade to Chicago. Per my understanding, the team had the trade lined up and Russ didn't want to play for Chicago.

Everyone has opinion. Rob has been right. He has been wrong. You can like him and you can dislike him. Neither is right or wrong. Rob Staton is from the U.K and loves American football. He follows and is a huge fan of our Seattle Seahawks. He does run a blog and is free to viewers.

- People enjoy his draft coverage and analysis because it is often very different from the major outlets. Plus it is focused on what the Seahawks need or traits the team is looking for. He breaks down a lot of prospects and does a great job at highlighting guys that have been overlooked. He would do it early in the college season too. I would recommend reading his articles about the draft. It is objectively really high quality stuff. For example, he was on the Joe Burrow and Zach Wilson trains far far earlier than most. He completely nailed the Hawks falling in love with Malik McDowell and Frank Clark.

- Again, trying to be objective -- Rob is not an X's and O's guy. So when he goes over the game he is reacting to it. Same with others like Hawkbloggers, Hawk's Nest, Brandon Nelson, Man-to-Man. He is reacting as a fan. I don't take these too seriously. I listen for content to be completely honest. Especially true after a win. I just want to bask in the glory. A lot things these guys say are wrong. For instance I did push back towards Rob about the Saints' game and how there were absolutely no silver-lining. There was. The defense started to unlock things and the X's and O's explains that. So they can be wrong and will be wrong. They are fans just like us.

- I like to listen to a little here and little there. Gives me an idea of what everyone is talking about. If you really want to understand why something works or why something failed then you need to listen to Matty and Griff's breakdowns. They actually explain the game.
