Riq Woolen Apology

Apparently, some of us that can't chill out and get the F*** over it aren't the only ones that feel that a simple apology isn't enough:

According to team sources, Seattle issued Woolen an internal fine equivalent to one playoff game check, a punishment handled entirely within the organization and separate from any league discipline.

The fine was paired with a mandatory closed-door address, where Woolen spoke directly to the defensive unit, accepting responsibility and emphasizing the importance of composure in high-leverage moments.

The discipline was not intended as a reactionary measure, but as a preventative one.

With a Super Bowl matchup against the New England Patriots looming, Seattle’s leadership wanted to send a clear message to the entire roster that emotional penalties will not be tolerated on the league’s biggest stage.

Coaches stressed that while accountability is respected, actions must follow words when championship stakes are involved.

That's cool. Thanks for posting. MM/JS don't mess around when it comes to team culture.

Let's hope he goes back to calling himself Tariq Woolen again b/c Riq Woolen reeked of attitude lazy play, and selfishness.

BTW I'm good with whatever the team decides as far as his future with the team. Perhaps this was learning moment for him.

This player if he were to get his head on straight could be a top level CB, presently it's hard to say he is now.
The problem with the 'if' part is that he's been given a lot of opportunities. My worry would be that given his past attitude that he could turn into another Quandre Diggs where once he got paid, his laziness returned.

I'll trust Mac and JS to make that decision, but yeah, it's going to be something to keep our eyes on. Let's see how he does in the SB.

We won't have to find out, because he won't be back next year. There's almost no chance he does it in the SB. Good enough.
But this is who he is, there's a difference between passionate and selfish.
We all have a right to feel how we want about this. We're not required to feel a certain way. He almost cos the Hawks a SB, period. That's not just something that you throw under the rug. He has a history of this. He was warned by the refs. It was incredibly selfish.
I don't care if I sound like I'm being unreasonable with the guy. Or that I should "get over it"
No, I'm pissed off and will continue to be until I see him ball out and go an entire SB w/out being an idiot. Nobody gets to tell me or anyone else how to feel about this. I don't have to agree, just like nobody has to agree with how I feel about this. VERY glad he was disciplined though.

I agree about Riq, man.

That bonehead decision basically all but pushed him out the door and now he's simply playing to get a new contract from another team so I fully expect him to go and play his absolute best with no bullsh*t from his mouth against the Pats.

And he very well may have a couple of picks against that Fraud Drake Maye-NOT.

I'll say it one last time. WALK AWAY. It's that simple.
Drake Maye is def. not a fraud. He's pretty damn good.

I do think that your scenario is the most likely, but I wouldn't be so sure about it. There is no doubt that Woolen has all the physical tools necessary to be a great shutdown corner. Maybe he suddenly sees the light. But I'm not holding my breath.

Disagree.

If he was in the NFC, I don't think he would be having the same type of success he's had.

He took advantage of a pretty weak AFC this year.

He's the DK MetCalf of the Secondary, imo.

Maybe he needs to go to Pittsburgh where the "Grass is always Greener"? :devilish:

It IS ok to give credit to an upcoming opponent. He's a pretty damn good QB. Denial won't change that.

Both things can be true.

Sure the AFC is the weaker conference. You are correct.

Disagreeing with the statement that Maye is “pretty darn good” is ludicrous however.

He’s accurate
He can make all the throws
He has great legs/can beat you running.
He has the support and respect of his teammates
Etc etc

Anyway I’m not willing to insinuate he’s not good, after all he led his team to the Super Bowl.
I liken your statement to those that claim Sam isn’t good.

He has been in the MVP talk all season. His numbers don't lie. His record doesn't lie.

I never said he wasn't good, @pmedic920

What I said was that he wouldn't have had the same success in the NFC that he had in the AFC.

That's not the same as me saying "He sucks" or something.

I know he's good and he wouldn't be here in this position if he wasn't.

But that's not what I was saying as I just pointed out.

Questioning whether he'd have the same success in the NFC than in the AFC isn't equal to saying "Drake isn't good".

C'mon man...

Well, you have ZERO proof that he wouldn't play well in the NFC. I know you think every other team sucks and the Hawks will win by 30 every game, and I appreciate it. But we are going up against a solid, well coach team, with a damn good defense and a damn good coach. Playing with a major chip from hearing for 2 weeks how they're gonna' get smoked.
Maye is an MVP candidate; he's not some scrub.
