yeah what this brings up for me is what are we willing to pay him at this point? it's a contract year and he's been good so someone is going to give him a bag. might not be worth it for us to give him a big payday. I'd imagine the SB is his last game with the team
Negative bonuses for any unsportsmanlike flags :)

That taunting call was weaker than the Patriots schedule this year.

No need for apologies. I hope he keeps with the head games and whatever helps him stay engaged. Kicking the opponent when they're down is a cherished tradition. The benefit is worth an occasional flag.

The call was weak as the jaw jacking was going on all game long. Still though...he shouldn't have given the nfl a reason to throw a flag by standing there. We need Woolen to play and he will be a super bowl champion and gone to another team next year. More headache than hes worth.

agreed not a fan of the soft call but the fact is taunting is a penalty. He was on their sideline taunting them. So we just can't be making any mistakes like that which could give the refs an excuse to throw a flag. It's too costly. Gotta know the rules regardless of if we agree with them. But we won, so all is good. Probably took a few years off my life with the stress

From your mouth to Schneider's ear. I hope Riq is someone else's problem next year. Like DK, this is who he is. If he hasn't learned when to STFU by now, he never will.

Na happens way too much, same as DK. At some point it's just who you are. Between his lazy technique, cerebral meltdowns, and head scratching coverage and tackling efforts at the most crucial times, he is a weak link on this defense, and does not fit in with the culture Macdonald is building here.

I cant imagine he'll be back next year as anything other than a depth player. If at all.
This.

Yeah, I saw worse taunting by the Rams that wasn’t called

I wasn't necessarily talking about Woolen. He's seen his teammates flagged for it, his opponents flagged for it, seen other games this season where they've called taunting penalties. All teams were informed before the season that they were going to crack down on this crap. Woolen did it right in front of a ref and in front of the Rams bench.

Sorry, as sincere as it may have been, I don't accept his apology. Had he been an employee of mine, I would have fired him on the spot.

Then to make matters worse, he gets burned for a TD on the very next play.
He gave them 7 pts we didn't have to spare. They were about to punt.

The coaching staff has been supporting him, but the SB is on the line, so yeah, prob his last game for SEA.

Agreed, but I think the question is more about what are we willing to pay him? If someone else offers him a huge bag, this mistake makes it harder for us to be willing to match that

This. We definitely need him now but, I don’t see us paying him more than another team is certain to offer.

Riq will follow the $$. Not knocking that mindset..

I trust JS and MM to make the right call on it. I’m good with whatever they do.

I cautiously forgive him. He’s an important part of this team.

But, every time he does the sword thing I vomit in my mouth.

He also underperforms in big moments.

I just don’t know if we’ll find someone ‘better’ or with better upside this offseason.

Edit - I typed this in like, 5 minute segments…my bad…reads like shit

Nope. Not buying his "apology"
He nearly cost us a SB. He was warned by the refs to NOT taunt. He did it anyway. He is a selfish player. He needs to be gone. There is ZERO excuse for taunting. We would have had the ball again, up 11 and could have easily ran a 3 or 4 minutes off the clock. Basically game at that point. It's not hard. WALK AWAY. EXACTLY what I have been saying for years.

At this point, we have to play him as he's the best option we have and gives us the best chance of winning. I was just saying that I don't forgive him.
My feelings also.Hopefully he will be gone in the summer.
Total moron.

Nope not me, I’m not apologizing.

As far as I’m concerned he is a liability not an asset.
I hope we find a solid replacement and release him.

I’m sure, 100% sure that if he stays, we will see some very good play from him, I’m just as sure we will see more incidents of this nature.
As the old saying goes, a Leopard can’t change his spots.

The kids head isn’t in the right place IMO

dudes a dumbass and not good enough to be trash talking. I think he's gone next year. If dude had his head screwed on straight, he could be at an all pro level. His level of effort is suspect.

I can't imagine how thick the .net vitriol would have been regarding the taunting penalty had Seattle lost. Would have been one of the most ballistic things we've ever seen around here, and entirely justified. Fortunate we stayed with it and kept them scoreless in the final quarter.

Riq will almost certainly finally "get it" now, and I don't think trying to unload him should be a priority, if at all.
I'm not convinced he has got it.

It is his third taunting penalty since week 9. It is made clear to all the players pre season what gets a taunting penalty and the importance of avoiding them. I am sure the coaching staff spoke ot Riq about it again after the Washington and Atlanta games yet he did it again last night. To me he seem to not be able to control himself in the intensity of the game and is a liability because of it.

If he was still under his cheap rookie contract season or cutting would create a lot of dead cap it would be a difficult decisio0n what to do with him but as this is his contract year (another incentive not do stupid things that risk losing games) I think he is an easy cut.
