JSN is a nasty blocker! Dude is aggressive and skilled on run plays. His seperation in routes is truly elite.
OLine
Starting Lineup:
LT Forsythe
LG Tomlinson
C Harris
RG Bradford
RT Curtis
Starters played pretty well overall.
Forsythe allowed the pressure on Howell's blocked throw
Curtis was in at RT to start. He got beat and gave up the pressure that caused Howells spin move escape. He appeared to struggle the most on the OLine...not his natural position, so not sure what it will mean.
I watched Olu & Haynes the most after the starters.
I was hard on Olu's goal line performance, but he had a decent game overall. Put his guy on the ground on a couple of runs and held up decent in the passing game.
Olu & Haynes had decent push on the Holani TD, but Haynes man broke loose and filled the hole, causing Holani to break it outside and had an open lane to the end zone.
On that goal line fail, the issue on 3rd down was predominatly the RB decision to stay right. If he slid left he probably gets in with some effort. The 4th down play was a mix, and honestly hard to deciphr with the chaos in the middle...but Olu was on his butt at the end. A good play by their LB slicing in solidified the stop. Both Olu and Haynes had the least push on those 2 plays I had seen, but faced a stacked box.
I think they both graded well in pass pro and provided good push on most runs.
Honestly, OLine performance was better than I expected. The RB's had room to run for the most part and the pocket rarely collapsed. In fact, the QB's had much more time consistently that I have seen in years.
LBs
All of our ILBs are on the smaller side (230-235ish). Bobby played at ~240, so not too much smaller.
Rhattigan played a really good game. He's quick and instinctual.
Dodson has great instincts as well. High energy and quick reads.
DLine
Mafe & Hall collapsed the pocket on a couple of occasions.
Hall and Murphy (doubled) had the pressure that caused the int by Bryant. Murphy is a fighter! When he's in with Williams and Reed Flanked by a pair of Nwosu/Mafe/Hall...their gonna be fun to watch.
The discipline on D is vastly improved from last year. The layers of coverage were refreshing to see executed so well in P1. The biggest gaffe I saw was Morris not staying home on a play that netted 6-8 yds when he bit on a fake hand-off.
I know it's pre-season, but there is justification for positive vibes right now. Pretty jacked.
