It comes down to price and how much is guaranteed. The projections in June 2024 were $12M+ per season with 2 years fully guaranteed. At some point his limitations will catch up with him.

Rams fans certainly didn't want him to leave. I'm not sure they wanted to pay him that sort of money though. Spotrac have been way off with some players in the past. Maybe he'll sign for $4M.

He's been kicked to the curb twice so there may be more value in guarantees than in incentives/bonuses. If I was JS, I'd be inquiring about an extension. If I'm Jones' agent, I'm waiting because his value is increasing every week. His personal play is an upgrade, but it's pretty easy to argue that he's impacting more than just his position. It's reasonable to think both will continue to improve all season. LWilliams wasn't re-signed until Spring so it could be similar with EJones. Seems like there's a path to get it done...early would be nice, but....

Fine, but I'm just saying that the guy is a damn good Linebacker. Does everything have to be an argument? Just curious.
I'm just pointing out how good he is. How consistent he is. How great of a tackler he is. How he's almost always in the right spot. How much of a leader he is. How much his teammates feed off of him. And, how fast he became a huge leader on this team.

Not sure what the problem is. Dodson isn't even CLOSE to Jones as a player.
Never mind, I'm not down to get another time out. I've made my point, not that it matters.

I'll clear the air. You could have literally posted any other stat or opinion of why he's good except tackles and no one would have corrected you. You picked the one stat the means relatively nothing for an ILB

Fair enough. I was just pointing out he lead the Rams in tackles. Then it just became something else. Par for the course. But I'm used to it by now.
Meh.

That moment when you regret saying something because you'll never hear the end of it. My point wasn't wrong, he did lead the team in tackles. I just should have included the several OTHER reasons why it's time to extend him. Forgive me, for I have sinned.
Damn

Lol, it was a completely moot point, all he did was point that out. You're taking it personal

Nah, I'm having fun with it. I don't care either way. He's a great player who brings a lot to the table. Including what I pointed out.
I deserved some of the sh** that comes my way, so I'm here for it.

I maybe wrong and correct me if I’m wrong, but, primarily Jones, has been outside backer and backers that play outside instead of “middle” are typically tradable commodities that aren’t as valued as a traditional “Mike” linebacker.

However, since Seattle believes Jones could be a the “Mike” and have since made the move and Jones with Seattle is now “green dotted” Jones has become “that guy” now.

Not sure if teams will want a Fred Warner salary to middle backers as much as they would pay a 3 tech or edge guy now….

Seattle will have to decide if they want to pay Warner type money (maybe not as high) to Jones or if Seattle wants to pay Jones outside backer money instead….

I may be way off but I'm thinking that we might be able to sign Jones during the off season to a 3- or 4-year extension at closer to a $10M/year average... keeping the 2025 cap hit fairly low by giving him a sizeable signing bonus and maybe adding a void year or two to spread out that signing bonus.

The contract that Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah signed with the Brown would be a good guide... Example contract for Jones

I don't understand why he keeps getting traded for scraps. Am I missing something? He went from being referred to as the leader of the Rams defense by McVay to being traded for a fifth rounder in two years in the same off-season. I know the Titans suck, but he turned 25 literally three days ago. Why would they not consider him a building block? They only got a fourth rounder from us.
The Rams acknowledged they made huge mistake in letting him walk.

The Titans? Well, they're the Titans

I think they need to sign him up long term ASAP.

What happened to him at other places means very little to me. What he is doing here means everything, and he is doing everything here after only three weeks on the job. That points to a guy with loads of potential, potential we can't afford to let get away. His stats are great but they only begin to tell the whole story on his contributions to this team.
Hang in there Soulfish.

Now your just being soulfish… if they wanna argue then you gotta argue it’s the unwritten rules of the interweb
