Not knowing the full cap situation, if they could afford it, the Hawks should absolutely resign Jones ASAP before his price goes even higher based on his play on the field. He is absolutely one of the top two or three pieces to that D and needs to be retained at all costs.

I don't understand why he keeps getting traded for scraps. Am I missing something? He went from being referred to as the leader of the Rams defense by McVay to being traded for a fifth rounder in two years in the same off-season. I know the Titans suck, but he turned 25 literally three days ago. Why would they not consider him a building block? They only got a fourth rounder from us.

Yes, I totally agree. Something is so strange with this situation. I think I saw that McVay was upset when they lost him too. Just perplexing.

I think he's the most important part. The players seem to be in the right places now and doing their jobs.

I'm afraid 'ASAP' might be in the offseason because of our cap situation and what's ahead for next year. I do seriously hope that negotiations have started. I believe I have heard that he wants to stay here going forward and he definitely has been a great add this season, so if both sides want it to happen it should be doable.

Jones had a knee injury which made him miss a couple of games last year. Then he missed camp this summer with the same knee issue, which I think made the Rams nervous about extending him.

Also, McVay may have never been sold on Jones as the MLB. After Jones' first year in LA (the year they won the Super Bowl), the Rams signed Bobby Wagner to play in the middle and shifted Jones to the outside. This might be the rare case of McVay being wrong about a player.

The bugaboos were twofold: 1) injury risk, 2) how much of his excellence came from playing behind Aaron Donald.

I think we've safely proven that 2) isn't a problem.

People talking about the Rams having "suspicious cap space" then not understanding that they are right up against the cap, despite paying the lowest amount in the NFL to both their linebackers and defensive tackles. They simply could not afford to keep Jones, and he doesn't fit their overall defensive philosophy.

He's definitely one player we need to focus on siging in the off-season, But unfortunately we do not have the cap space to extend him right now...

I don't think he's a 'great' LB on other teams. Showed slightly above average elsewhere. But he fits MM's scheme perfectly. I think he found his natural home here and it's a WIN-WIN for him to re-sign here at a fair price this off-season.

You clearly feel like arguing. I'll pass. My point is that he's a damn good player, and the guy rarely misses tackles, nothing more to my point. It never ends.

Go Hawks

Fine, but I'm just saying that the guy is a damn good Linebacker. Does everything have to be an argument? Just curious.
I'm just pointing out how good he is. How consistent he is. How great of a tackler he is. How he's almost always in the right spot. How much of a leader he is. How much his teammates feed off of him. And, how fast he became a huge leader on this team.

Not sure what the problem is. Dodson isn't even CLOSE to Jones as a player.
Never mind, I'm not down to get another time out. I've made my point, not that it matters.
