Of all our LB's Wright has been the worst and in a tie with Smith for the least impactful player at LB on the team..

What Bizarro KJ Wright are you watching?

Dude has 65 tackles, 2 sacks and 3 forced fumbles this year. He's an upper tier Outside LB that paired with Bobby has the speed and coverage ability to not only give Irvin the freedom to rush the passer, but allows Kam to smash people in the box, as opposed to what most strong safeties do, chase TE's around the field for four quarters. Wright makes this happen, not Wagner.

And this doesn't preclude us from signing BOTH Wagner and Avril.

I said, he has been playing better LATELY. Before lately, he stank. His pass coverage isn't all that, even now.

Very true, Vols, I just know we can't keep them all, and Irvin and Wags will be free to negotiate very soon. Irvin is likely to have his 5th year option taken by the Hawks. Now I think Avril walks, because that is a lot of cash to lock up in the defense without getting lopsided.

I worry about that, too. Maybe that's why they moved on Wright during the season, before any official cap increase numbers came out. We lock him into an OLB contract for realistic current numbers instead of for inflated "fresh cap money" numbers.

Honestly? I'd rather re-sign Avrik than KJ. It just seems harder to find pass rushers.

News of this proactive extension of KJ Wright is most welcome by this fan.

Lets review. KJ Wright came into the league, as it turned out, pretty much NFL ready.

KJ's feel for the game and special instincts are unique and not easy to replace.

When Bobby Wagner came on board, KJ helped accelerate Wagner's development into an excellent MLB very early on.

KJ is unusually versatile. He can play all three 4-3 linebacker positions. Furthermore, with his extraordinary instincts and grasp of the game, I have little doubt he could play all 4 of the linebacker positions in a 3-4 defense.

KJ delivers the physical style and unselfishness a Pete Carroll's defense must have.

I have little doubt that many fans will continue to undervalue and overlook KJ Wright. But those of us who understand KJ's game and contribution will celebrate this extension and look forward to enjoying more KJ Wright performances.

Smart and timely extension. I give it :th2thumbs:

I still think Wright's number may be a little inflated, but nothing crazy...........and according to him, he thinks the same.

KJ Wright said he had a number in mind to re-sign, and the #Seahawks actually exceeded it.

6.5M sounds good to me, that means we can sign Bobby for around 8M, and Avril around the same as Bennett. Irvin? If I had to guess Pete and John try to either talk him into a low extension like Baldwin, or cut him as I don't think he worth his 3M option.

Well, obviously they're the experts, not me. But, he seemed to be the easiest and cheapest to replace. He's is little to negative impact without Wagner. He was ABYSMAL in the KC game...putrid...awful...find a thesaurus for more adjectives for "bad".

And he played lights out last year against the Saints and shut down Jimmy Graham in coverage. No one game defines a player.

Wright's only as good as the other LB's are. He's below average without Wagner, IMO.

But hey, at least my autographed KJ, game worn helmet is still relevant?

Uhhh if he was below-average without Bobby, he would not be re-signed.

Loling at people in this thread. We just got a bargain.

Signing Avril over Wright would go against the culture Pete preaches. Take care of and reward your own.

Yeah, I got a little too excited with that post. He's looked below-average without Bobby the past few years, IMO.

I like this, take care of your own reward players playing well, we haven't seen a structure but I imagine based on past contracts that it won't hinder the Seahawks from signing other guys.

Everyone is comparing him to Bobby, and I think Bobby is a better player but what's odd is I always hear the coaching staff praising KJ and giving borderline passive aggressive comments to Bobby through the media.

Per overthecap.com, the raw numbers would make KJ the highest paid 4-3 OLB in the NFL. He would be getting paid more than Von Miller...

I hope that contract is being misreported.

Considering Von is still on his rookie deal that does make sense no...? Add 30 mill plus onto this deal and you'll have what Von will get.

Ok so i lied that wasn't my last post.. Do I expect them to be perfect? No. I can find other mistakes of various levels. But go find me a team that makes zero mistakes, that hits on picks like this organization does and has been as close to back to back super bowl apperances? Ill wait.......................

Why do you need to bash this organization right now? This is the absolute pinacle of the franchise. They have never been to this level and you feel the need to bash. I honestly feel sorry for you you can't enjoy this.
Thanks, I am most of all to be pitied. I lack most of the passive aggressiveness I need to survive in this world.

First, if we all agreed, this place would be BORING.
Second, I didn't bash anyone. I said I thought KJ was less important than 8 other defensive players and I posted a picture.
Third, I scream as loud as anyone on gameday.

Some random Joe on the interwebs told me that KJ sucks.

KJ's position coaches, coordinators, head coach and GM graded him out and determined that this deal was great for the team.

Who should I listen to? Hmmmm. The rando armchair GM who doesn't have the first clue how the team plays him, grades him and plans to use him in the future? Or the Superbowl winning coach and front office who have done nothing but win and find gems everywhere?

Boy, that's sure tough.

I was going say something along these line...I always do. Its in my signature. Love this FO.

I don't know how to feel about this if true. On one hand, it's bad business, on a human level, it's awesome.

Do you not like this because you think it mean not signing other guys? Because that's wrong too.

I think this also means they think Marsh can take Avril's spot.

I hope so. Marsh had my heart forever when it was reported that he was watching The Last Samurai with his pitbull instead of draft coverage when he was drafted.

To be honest, the picture you posted was relevant and amusing, it showed that as much as we can trust PC and JS, they're capable of making mistakes. He went off on a whole other tangent.

Scotte doesn't need your pity, he's one of the bestest and most handsomest contributors on this board.

KJ Wright is probably a 5-6 million dollar level player. So, for 4 years = 20 to 24 million.

Now, factor in his leadership, versatility, and being a solid contributor to the starting Defense since he was a rookie probably earned him that extra 3-7 million dollars.

Not bad... every team in the NFL would love to have a KJ Wright... just a solid all around football player who possesses the intangibles and determination that Carroll covets.

With that said, I felt KJ in the end would get Donald Butler money. In the 6-7 range. In the 4th Rnd Comp range.

Also, this probably means Smith is gone. Probably Maxwell as well.

Avril is a toss-up at this point, I'm leaning towards gone, unless he signs a similar deal to Michael Bennett's.

However,

If you're Okung, Unger, and Miller fans I would be concerned about their future on this team:

Okung is more or less damaged goods. Not one single 16 game season.

Unger has only been above average when healthy. LJP is pretty solid and I think they like Schilling who was okay considering the circumstances.

And Miller is probably replacable at this point especially if the Seahawks go on to win another Superbowl with the ragtag group they have at TE now.

Seahawks would free up a lot cap cutting tie with those 3 players.
