Building on that, it seems like Darnold's the only QB in the league who isn't allowed to throw an interception anymore without the media dogpiling with "see, I told you". Josh Allen has 2 INTs and 3 fumbles against Denver, which probably cost them a trip to the SB.
No, it’s because Josh Allen has been a good QB since his second year in the league. He is proven.

Darnold was bad until the last two years, can’t blame people for doubting

Now he has turned it around and won. The doubts should be lessened if not removed

Good points, but there are plenty of Mediots who refuse to accept they were wrong. And it's delish.

They won't be.

Because he's Sam Darnold.

The guy who said he saw ghosts . 🙄

That's what they'll always see no matter if he wins multiple Superbowls.

There comes a point where ignoring the "mediots" (nice one, @SoulfishHawk ) is all one can do.

It's a copycat league, and we're setting the standard yet again.

Oh brother. Hater Tots everywhere. Do we REALLY need to look at the list of SB winning QBs? There have been SEVERAL who weren't exactly the best of the best. Big fricken deal. This guy is just a "game manager" etc.
Yeah, cool.........who MANAGED to win a SB. Nick Foles, Doug Williams, Trent Dilfer, etc. Not exactly beasts at QB.

Hurts is a damn good QB, have never understood the hate for that guy. And in no world is Sam "below average"
That's hilarious.

A "below average QB" does not help lead two separate teams to 14 wins.

A "below average QB" does not outduel the NFL MVP (Stafford) in the NFC Championship Game people refer to as the True SuperBowl.

Sam Darnold isn't Elite but he sure as hell isn't average either.

BTW :

Comparatively, our O-line was superior. But those Pats interior lineman applied a $hit load of pressure. Sam didn’t have an easy day, but handled it really well. He executed the plan that MM and KK dialed in like a surgeon.

Gonzalez played an excellent game and denied the O considerable points…yet we still won by how many. Yes, the D scored and set the O up nicely..and they capitalized.

Complimentary football at its finest!

Sam played a much better game than he is given credit.

I am not completely discounting the fact he could regress, especially if things aren't as good around him, like play calling.
Safe prediction to make, given only 8 of the other 40 Super Bowl-winning QB's repeated the following year. There's a high cost to winning in the NFL, as there probably should be.

Serious "Super" Sam Darnold was TRANSCEDENTAL in the SB. And the playoffs as a whole. He literally was the best QB in the history of the NFL postseason in terms of turnovers committed.

Thank you for coming to my Ted talk

Yeah, you wish you got paid five figures for this post. :p

I don't see why people gotta exaggerate Sam's Super Bowl performance (which is the topic of this thread). It's not as if criticism negates the ring, or undoes the fantastic game he had against a superior opponent in the Rams.

I can absolutely guarantee you that nobody on the coaching staff GAME-PLANNED to have Sam miss those throws. Don't be ridiculous.

Science has a better definition of average than football fandom IMO. Over there, average is just the middle 2/3 of people in a group. They would just say an average starting QB is a QB you'd rank anywhere from about 8th to 24th and all average really means is a guy is neither elite or awful. That definition makes things so much simpler. Take the following questions:

Is Darnold an average QB? (Translation: would you rank him between 8th and 24th?) Absolutely.

Is it a reasonable expectation to be able to win a Superbowl with an average QB? (Translation: do QBs ranked 8th to 24th win SBs?) If we just count Darnold, Hurts, Foles, Flacco, Broncos Peyton, and Eli twice as the the only average QBs to win recent SBs, 1/3 of the last 20 SBs have been won by average QBs. Yeah, it seems very reasonable to think a good team has a chance with or without an elite QB.

Is Darnold better than Mayfield? Maybe. I dunno. They're both average.
Is Darnold better than Hurts? Maybe. I dunno. They're both average.
Is Darnold better than Kyler Murray? Yeah, that dude sucks.

But maybe that's the problem. It's too simple. You can't argue as much with stuff like that.

He wasn’t good his first two years. Then he was really good the next 4 years. And then Darnold had better wins and stats the last two years.
