On a football note Rawls seems built a bit like CJ Anderson. There's a pretty big advantage to being a shorter guy as an NFL back. It's much harder for the front seven to follow so long as the player still has enough power to break first contact.

From the Morning Sun’s account of what led to Rawls’ arrest yesterday afternoon:

Video surveillance from the casino shows Rawls entering a casino eatery with two other men, observing an abandoned purse in a chair, and sitting on it, according to an affidavit requesting arrest warrants filed by a Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Police officer.

After sitting on the purse, Rawls hands it to one of his companions, who places it in a bag before the pair leave the casino, the officer said.

The officer said Rawls used a stolen credit card from the purse to buy sub sandwiches at a casino sub shop and the group later bought $33.77 worth of gas with a debit card from the stolen purse.

Despite being caught on tape, Rawls denies the allegations.

Rawls was held out of one game and suspended for another after being arrested for three felony charges in connection with the theft of a 62-year old woman's purse from a casino. As part of a plea deal, he pled guilty to a high-scourt misdemeanor count of attempted larceny from a building in exchange for having the other two felony charges dropped.

He then suffered an injury against Buffalo that hampered the rest of the season, and he was held out of the Popeyes Bahamas Bowl for an "academic issue."

Rawls finished the season with 1,103 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns in nine games.

He was invited to the NFL Scouting combine where he had 15 repetitions on the bench press, a 35.5-inch vertical jump and 116-inch broad jump, however, he disappointed in the 40-yard dash with a time of 4.65 seconds. Rawls did make up for that at CMU's Pro Day when he re-ran the 40-yard dash and was clocked 4.42 seconds.

This part of the story is not correct, per the police report. Rawls used his own credit card to pay for the sandwiches, which is how the police tracked him down. His friend allegedly used the woman's credit card from the purse to pay for gas later. This $33.77 charge for gas is the only charge mentioned in the police report. Rawls says he never went through the purse himself or used the credit card on anything. Logically, if the friend put the purse directly into a bag and then left the casino, it doesn't make sense that they would have used the credit card in the casino. I presume this blog article that you reference has simply confused the existing facts.

Also, Rawls says he took the purse off the chair and set it on the floor to sit on the chair, but denies handing it to the friend who placed it in a bag. We would have to see the video to know for sure, but there does appear to be some reasonable doubt here. Either way, it seems likely that he knew this theft had occurred and acted as an accomplice, hence his misdemeanor attempted larceny conviction.

Thanks for the clarification. The story I quoted initially was before the investigation was complete.

Either way it is somewhat removed from the "purse snatcher" narrative.

The only problem I have is, the first big game he has, whenever that may be, will be searching his history and this will pop up, and it will be people's first impression of him, then there will be more Pete Carroll haters because of it.

Lynch did alot of things before coming to this team, it's not excusable but he's been a wonderful human being after coming to the Seahawks, minus the last DUI he had. One thing I notice about the Seahawks is that most of our players, I would say almost 60 percent of our players each have their own foundation that helps out their cause. I think Pete's mentality of helping the community and winning in life really rubs off to other players and in doing this I think it helps some of the players become a better person.

+1, but I'm sure Pete is more than used to the critical eyes and ignorance.

Helping people surrounded by that way of life since they were born involves finding them a way out. By actually giving a chance to people who, GASP, may have been exposed to or involved in a crime, he's removed them from a couple of causative factors (bad environment and poverty). Great starting point to put Pete's considerable experience/resources in these matters to work. That's a far cry from Jerruh, Jerruh's offspring and that smirk-faced ginger of a coach in Dallas.

It seems to me that, if they are going to carry two backups behind Lynch, at least one of them should be a special teams contributor. To date, neither incumbent backup has seized a special teams role. So ..... a special teams role is an additional avenue by which Thomas Rawls can make his case.

I'd certainly like to see a second back join Derick Coleman on Special Teams.

Pro Day 40 times are so crazy. Looking at his YouTube videos he looks way more like a 4.6 guy than a 4.4 guy.
