Interesting.

Two interpretations of this move is that:
1) This is an actual deterioration of talks between the two sides and chances of Stafford returning to LA just took a big hit.
2) Rams are using this tactic as a way to keep Stafford's contract down by showing he can't get what he wants (rumor is he wants 3 years at $50M) somewhere else and Stafford is probably staying.

I see some folks talking about how close LA was to the NFCCG, but not a lot of acknowledgement of the fact that they were super inconsistent all year and on a game-to-game basis was probably the worst team* in our division.

I'm guessing McVay is pretty aware of that and isn't blinded by the series of fortunate events that made up that final third of the year.

Interesting to see how this turns out.

* Well, until the bottom completely fell out for the Niners.

I don't know if id say the Rams were "super inconsistent". They had only two games the entire season decided by fewer than ten points. They had a lot of injuries out of the gate, started 1-4, then got healthy at their bye week and went 9-2 over their last 11 games before playing backups against us (and still taking it down to the wire). Id argue they were more consistent than we were.

I dont get the impression that they're expecting Stafford to leave. I think they're just letting him set his market. It'd make very little sense to trade him anyway. They've got too much else going to suddenly switch QBs in a very weak QB market and picks even later than ours.

Kind of interesting. If Russ and Throw Rogan don't find starting jobs this year, Stafford and Geno are likely the league's two oldest starting QBs going into next season.

Yeah, Stafford *seems* their best option for chance at a SB run next year, though they certainly have to get somebody else in line to take over soon enough. He's on his last legs now, and vulnerable to getting knocked out at any time with his lack of mobility at his age and all the punishment he's endured over the years. I assume he'd only want to play for a highly competitive team at this point in his career, and who might that possibly be? Minnesota? Pittsburgh? Jets? I don't know.

I expect Stafford to be back with the Rams from what I have heard the Rams want at least one 1st rd pick, I don’t see any team offering more than a 3rd rd pick.

I expect Stafford to say with LA as well, though a couple of analyst folks have said this looks like talks are getting worse with LA.

Stafford's leverage seems to be limited though. He's got 2 years left on this contract; he's not going into the final year. Also, he's got almost no guaranteed money left but the Rams will take a tremendous dead cap hit if he goes.

I understand why Stafford's making a play: He's stuck with the Rams for 2 years and then he'll be 39, so his options will be limited at that point, so of course, try to get one last bag ala Kirk Cousins. But all he has as leverage is the threat of sitting out... but how realistic of a plan is that?

McVay read the memos between his grandpa and Walsh, he learned to trade away aging stars a year or two too early, rather than too late.

The Giants are the team he keeps getting connected to for some reason.

The Giants hired Kelly Stafford’s brother as some type of QB coach. One of the Giants players tweeted the numbers 9 and 10 with some looking eyes. (Kupp and Stafford).

Rumors have been constant since then.

I hate the Rams but have nothing but respect for Stafford. He's a flat-out baller. Much better than Geno ever was or ever will be. And it's not even close. Getting him out of the division would be nice.

Be careful what ya wish for, would not like Rodgers there to replace him, fits Erins skill set to have wide open offense and guys to wing it too.

They said the same thing about Jim Plunkett, Jeff Hostetler, and Rich Gannon. I think his attitude sucks, but he may be humble now after getting basically cut, there is something left in the tank and Southern Cal is not cold and frigid, could rejuvenate him a couple seasons. Not selling him short even though i despise him.

Raiders may be a fit too, Chip Kelly to design plays for him, Pete to massage his ego, and Brady to keep him honest.

I find it interesting that the Rams have no problem moving on from Stafford, yet some of our fans are so freaking afraid of life without Geno. Give me a friggin break.
