Quinn or Bradley?

Both coaches are good. Quinn seems to be more aggressive but he also has better talent along the DL than Bradley did. He has McDaniel, Avril, Schofield, Bennett, Hill.... As previously mentioned in this thread, Quinn has more to do more with. Defense is the strength of this team. Quinn is doing great.

We ended up winning against the Bears, but it never should have gone to OT.

Hard to tell, we're giving up more points this year - particularly in the last few games, but that is due in part to special teams gaffes or fumbles at the goalline - that said, I don't remember us giving up any TDs like the TY Hilton bomb last year.

Furthermore, there was a stat last night about how Arizona were 0-18 on 3rd and long this season, yet they converted twice last night. I know every streak has to end somewhere, but if we want to be considered the best D in the league, we shouldn't be the team that streaks like that are broken against.

I am fully aware that this was a problem last year too, but it was the one thing I wanted to see fixed more than anything else and yet the problem persists.

Scruggs is hurt on the PUP, most likely gonna end up on IR, and Howard had high praises from Quinn when we drafted him, Quinn was the DC at Florida and had spent time with Howard, I think Howard is in KC now, got picked up when we cut him.

As for the original topic.. I like Quinn simply because he does dial up blitz's and to me that is just one more element that teams need to plan for that we didn't get with Gus.

It seems to me that your post contains two contradictory lines of reasoning.

It was "Pete's defense" last year just as much as it is this year.

Yup pretty much spot on, he was controlling it then too... The point is the base defense and scheme are Pete's.. I think each coordinator brings a little of their own flare within the confines of Pete's parameters...

That is so hard. Let's take Pete out of it for a second, because we really don't know how much of this is his fingerprint. We don't know if he was doing less when Gus was here, or what that whole dynamic is. To be honest, I haven't noticed major scheme changes. I think we play a little more man now, but it isn't night and day. We still run a lot of cover 3. I think we blitz a little more now, but not a ton more. We're doing a lot better at getting home with 4, so it seems like we're being a lot more aggressive. I do think Quinn is utilizing Chancellor more towards his strengths. Bradley built a fantastic defense. It was already in place when Quinn took over, so it is just really hard to judge if Quinn could have done the same thing. If you're looking at numeric breakdowns, they're both really, really good. I think you're splitting hairs either way.

Some other interesting facts: Last year, the defense only gave up 20 or more points 5 times and 0 points 0 times. This year, already, it's 3 with 1 of those being above 30. So far, then, it looks like Gus had a more bend but don't break D, while Quinn's D is more ball-hawking but some of that might be attributable to the growth of players and better D-line play (which would be Quinn's trademark.)

Altogether, it's fairly obvious to me that the people who complained about Bradley are wrong in their estimations. He was a good D-coordinator who was probably making up for a lack of talent/health in the front four.

The team has evolved majority between Quinn and Bradley.

Bradley defenses would look a lot better if he had Avril, Bennet, NcDaniel, Hill, never mind the extreme youth on our defense, as time goes by these players are just keep getting better.

Really hard to compare the two, personal they coach is comparing apples to oranges. Both coaches have played a key part in developing this defense. Trying to give one more credit then the other is just not necessary

Quinn. He's come up with a lot more varied and frequent use of blitz packages, which has been a weak link for several years.

I also like the fact that he's moved Irvin to OLB. I thought Irvin played a pretty darn good game Thursday. He shows a lot more promise there than he did at DE.

Bradley lost us the playoff game last year with that Zone crap. Wilson drove down the field and went ahead with 30 seconds left and handed the ball to the D and said "I did my job, guys, now you do yours" and Bradley crapped the bed. I'm glad he's gone. Our D has upgraded from last year. He was holding us back.
