The defense overall was very good. Spoon was a BEAST! Having Lucas back makes the OL instantly better. Geno IS clutch no matter what anyone says.

Gutsy, ugly, beautiful victory over our nemesis in their building. Savor this one. It just may be the catalyst that gets us on a winning streak the rest of the way.

Good post!

Defense is coming together and I think we’re starting to see Macdonalds fingerprints on it.

Jones has been a massive addition.

JSN might be the #1 now

Geno overcame some early mistakes to make plays when he needed to.

Offensive line seemed ok?

My two takeaways offensively were, one, that I hope Lucas is able to be in the game more consistently as the season goes on. Keep him on a pitch count if we need to, but I noticed when Jerrell was in there (and not in a good way, unfortunately).

Two, I liked the adjustments Grubb is trying to build into our offense. It didn't all work out smoothly this game and we'll need to be careful about trying so hard to get the run that we run ourselves into a lot of third and longs, but overall I thought I saw meaningful change to how he called this game vs. others.

On defense, it's already been said a bunch, but Ernest Jones IV with the green dot and this defense is just flat out different. Yeah, we let Jauan Jennings do some damage to us and Purdy hurt us with his scrambles more than once (he's underrated in that regard, though) but we kept everything in front of us and bottled-up CMC.

Would be great if it were a catalyst for us but right now I’m just going to relish this one. Our first victory over the Niners in the Geno era and the first loss we have handed to Purdy.

I like the game the defense played: gritty and tenacious.
I don't like several things about our offense though that seem to be directly related to coaching:
1) Bradford is a massive man with no anchor. wtf.
2) Metcalf just seems mentally lazy: catches with his chest instead of hands, doesn't drag his feet on boundary catches, easily provoked...
3) Geno backpedaling under pressure needs to stop, step up or THROW IT AWAY. (That outlet pass for minus-7 was bad, getting sacked for minus-25 instead of minus-7 would be worse. I didn't hear what he had to say about that pick, but that throw should have been to the 3rd row of the stands...)
4) The 'heavy' offense isn't working. We are 0-for-6? trying to get a yard out of that formation.
5) Someone needs to tell Walker to turn it up field. His dancing around in the backfield like he expects the Red Sea to open makes me crazy. If the hole's not there, make one or get what you can.
Start Charbonnet so he can take notes until he gets it.

Offensive quibbles aside, we outscored Shanahan in the second half. We were not outcoached!

Man, so Lucas made a notable difference. I know people are knocking Jerrell, but there was a couple times where I saw Lucas on the sidelines teaching him, and afterwards I’d see Jerrell handle himself better each time. IMO I’d rather move him to guard and take either Tomlinson out or Bradford. Both suck. Olu needs to learn but he’ll get there

DK and Lucas back in the mix changes a lot. Offense was pretty meh much of the first half. When it mattered though, nails.
