Looked up Richburg:
Richburg was considered one of the best center prospects for the 2014 NFL Draft. He was drafted by the New York Giants in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft,

New York Giants
In 2015, Richburg was returned to his natural position of center, and with a year of NFL experience under his belt, he soon showed himself to be among the league's best centers; Pro Football Focus ranked him as the NFL's #2 center for the 2015 season.

San Francisco 49ers
On March 14, 2018, Richburg signed a five-year, $47.5 million contract with the San Francisco 49ers.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weston_Richburg

PFF ranked him #33 center in the league with 51.9

So Poona the rookie abused a $47.5 mil vet.

I'm hoping we find one or two more "UFA" like Poona in this draft.
Look for guys that should have been at the combine but were denied for one reason or another.

Guys didn't get invited to combines or gotten drafted, they all have some obvious or measurable faults. Finding stars or starter quality player among UFAs ain't easy.

True, but as bad as this admin has been about getting productive talent in the first couple of rounds (not all their fault), they've more than offset that with the talent they have picked up in the later rounds, and amongst the undrafted.

*I'm still a believer in the theory that a lot of their draft success was due to a particular talent scout, who is no longer with the org.

Poona is one of the big reasons I'm not as worried about the pass rush this season. I'm willing to bet he has 8+ sacks and a boat load of pressures this year.

As we close in on draft weekend, Poona Ford is a reminder to not sleep on the fourth day of the draft. Sunday should be very active again this year.

Pete and John mentioned that finding undrafted free agents is really key this year due to having fewer draft picks. And Pete again spoke about finding guys with unique qualities, and he referenced Poona.

“In a press conference earlier Monday, Carroll mentioned the defensive tackle’s wingspan. The average defensive tackle is closer to 6-3 (75 in.) compared to Ford’s 5-11 (71 in.) frame. But while the average man has a wingspan that stretches about two inches longer than his height, Ford’s wingspan (80 inches) is a full nine inches longer than his height. Throw in character qualities that clearly piqued Seattle’s interest and a First-Team All-Big 12 nod, and Ford quickly became a target for Seattle post-draft.”

I was so angry at them last year when they didn't draft him. Then happy when they got him to sign here.

I just couldn't believe that after all of Poona's success in College, that THIS team would hold something like 5'11" against him. Especially since Pete is SOOOOO familiar with John Randle! He was 6'1" but that was "still too small" at the time.

I just hope that this year they don't reach so damn far in the first round. Get someone with a little less upside but way higher floor. We need good solid players out of the first rounds and if they turn into stars great, but can't continue to get nothing out of them

Seriously, isn't that how one defines a "reach?"

Perhaps I misunderstand you, but I'm one of those who have no problem with trading out of the first round to find solid players with upside that don't flash on teams' radar.

Misunderstanding somewhere I think

High ceiling but not as low bottom ie floor. Yes that often means lower ceiling but as long as it is still high it is fine

I think there are players like that in all rounds. They just shift where the ceiling and floor is by each round

Then there are players that are super athletic, tested great but maybe didn't show on tape. There are risks with injuries from the past, behavior etc -- saying maybe for once we need to avoid those even if that massive upside isn't there. Just because the risk isn't worth it

Ie don't reach

That was the part of "less upside" but higher floor vs "more upside" but lower floor

Yeah, sorry about that. I'm a Poona fan and can't wait to see what he can do as he learns and improves.

I expect and am excited to see Poona do more than just run stop. He may not knock down a bunch of balls but he can shed blocks and chase down people who have the ball, whoever that may be.
