Poll: If you were Richard Sherman and Earl Thomas...

Kinda curious... If you were Richard Sherman and Earl Thomas what would you do come contract negotiations time? Do you feel like you've built something special here and try and keep the group together or would you take as much money as you could.

A part of me says... "Hey I've earned it and your time in the NFL is so short, you never know what might happen year after year, gotta look out for #1"...

The other part of me says "Hey lets keep this team together and try and shoot for a dynasty... we have something special here that would be hard to replicate if I were to go to another team...".

What are your thoughts?

The difference in buying power between say $50k & $70k is huge compared to the difference between $12 mil & $16 mil.

That said, I'd hope for the former but expect the latter.

With how the current CBA is structured, most good NFL players are highly likely to get only ONE payday from the NFL. Nothing is guaranteed beyond that. Can't begrudge a player for wanting to make as much as he can in his one shot.

I also agree with poster above who said that this poll will be highly skewed toward what people WANT to happen and not what they would actually do. These guys have no connection to Seattle beyond having played for the Seahawks for a few years. The term "hometown discount" doesn't really apply. Imagine you're a Seattle native and a #1 WR playing for the Packers. Playing in that spread offense with Rodgers ensures you're going to put up great numbers forever. Now imagine the run-first Seahawks offer you way more money to come to Seattle. Are you really going to offer the Packers a sizeable discount for your services?

That's true... although I figure... lets say you decide to shop around because the Seahawks can't afford what you're looking to make... would you risk going to some place like... say... Cleveland and land a 7 year 60-80 million dollar contract but be on a losing team or negotiate something lesser in hopes of keeping a Superbowl caliber team together to possibly win multiple rings?

Edit to say this: In this business it is all about getting paid. Teams are in no way loyal to their players and any player would be foolish to be loyal to the team or take discounts to keep playing with their brothers.

While its true that we as fans want them to take less to stay together, there's no real way to know for sure what we would do in that situation, because we'll never be in that situation.

Its really all about priorities. Some people value certain things higher than money, such as winning and legacy. And its not like they have to play for the league minimum to stay here.

You could make $10M a year on the Seahawks, go to the playoffs with a chance at a Super Bowl ring every year and probably go to the Hall of Fame. Being part of an all time great unit increases your chances of reaching the Hall of Fame.

If you're going to leave a great organization like this and give up everything you've got going here for a few million more dollars a year, you have to take a realistic look at each organization pursuing you. Chances are if they can afford you, its because they don't have a quality roster. There are very few teams I'd even consider looking at, and most of them are the type that don't go after big name free agents.

Happiness, winning, and legacy are worth more to me than the difference between $10M and $14M a year.

Coming from someone who will never sniff that kind of money throughout my entire lifetime earnings, I'd take a reduced deal. To me that would be $9m for ET and $10m for Sherm. I doubt that happens though.

This "time is short make all the money you can in the league" is a buncha BS crap... Grand ol America created it too. Grown men, playing a game... and while I love it.. guess what, I could live without it ever existing, or if it went away, I wouldnt shed a tear; They make millions of dollars. Yes they have to pay taxes like the rest of us.. but.. I repeat, they make millions of dollars.

Basically what it comes down to, is they got rich and famous and feel like being complete asswads with their money, spending it like it grows out of the river.. Their choice. But I dont want to hear this "I got bills to0; crap" They create their giant bills; Frankly they can all kiss my arse.

That 300k min is pretty shabby too. Im not sure I could live on that kinda salary.


When teachers, public service members (police,fire) make their kinda cash working half the year, then maybe ill give two diddles about how much money they want for playing a game.


What would I do? I like winning, it feels good.. no matter what it is; winning even gets you bigger fame, more recognition, which in turn is going to bring you more money regardless; some of us are different.. SOme of you need millions of dollars a year to some how obtain happiness.. To each their own.

Both more then earned the right to go after the money should they choose to do so. But I think paying both serves to close our window quicker.

Off topic and dreaming, but for me, it boils down to what I'd hope the Hawks do this offseason. Namely, pay ET3 competitively, and deal my favorite Seahawk elsewhere while they can still turn him into draft capital and potential offensive upgrades, much like Minn got some compensation for dealing us Harvin before they had to up his contract. I figure old Gus and the Jags would take a serious look, owning the #3 pick and having some cap room.

Maxwell is playing at a near Sherm level, Lane and WT3 are no slouches, Simon is waiting his turn, next man up. The secondary can still be quite competitive.

7 draft picks for 2014 and trolling waiver wires looking for offensive line depth and weaponry does NOT excite me.
