Good listen, love listening to Pete talk football, almost as much as i love listening to Russ lol.

Unfortunately sounds like Breno is still 2 weeks out at least. Percy sounds a little closer. Wish he would have mentioned Unger's concussion. He made it sound like Russ is doing ok though, i know alot of people were worried about him and his non throwing arm.

You can't complain about a play call when it gets a receiver open, even when it's a pass inside the 3. Baldwin had his man dead to rights on the slant. Instantly validated the play call. Wilson was inaccurate/hurried into throwing too low, and Tandy made a terrific play on the ball.

But, throwing a fairly low pass into the hands of a tall defender up close, almost cost us the whole game...I've never been a fan of passing within the 5 yard line...Too easy to throw into close coverage...
I would have liked seeing Lynch bash it in down there too, BUT, on the other hand tho, you have to trust Russell Wilson to execute on an UNEXPECTED pass down there every once in awhile.
That pick was a really an unusual happening.
Just like the Bucs RB doing the basketball jump dunk pass for a TD within the 5 Yard line, it worked like a charm for them.

Russell had NEVER thrown an INT in the red zone. Why shouldn't Bevell call pass plays near the end zone???

Stop the hate on Bevell. It's ridiculous!

True. We've also fumbled more than a couple times on designed runs at the goal line. There are no error-proof plays in that situation. They'll continue mixing the calls and continue to be hammered for it if it doesn't work. When it works, it'll get "oh, of course you should've called that" reactions.

I actually think this is a size issue as well. RW is shorter it is a fact. A short pass over the middle with lots of guys simply will be harder for him to see AND it is harder to throw that hard and with enough height to go over the defender but still hit his WR. He is starting the pass lower down and isn't going to get the right trajectory for that pass when a defender makes a great play like that.

Peyton could simply due to stature make the same throw and be succesful because of angels.

This isn't a critcism of RW it is just what it is

That throw also needed to have some zip on it 'cause the window wasn't going stay open long to allow for a touch throw. That dude made a helluva reactionary play... I'll bet Russell saw him all the way, he just thought he could zip it by his earhole before he could react.

Agree with mikeak here and that's one reason why I didn't like the play call. Well, that and the fact that Beast is one of the toughest, strongest RBs in the NFL and you pay the guy to get TDs in these situations. Not gonna change my mind and I'm sure plenty of others won't either. I do know Darryl Johnston and The Goose said the same thing on the broadcast. They are former NFL players. So it isn't just "the fans".

All of that said, I think Bevell called a much better game this week than last....more quick, short patterns and more screens and more running the ball. None the less, I am hoping he is replaced this offseason. I feel he's too inconsistent and seems to adjust to other team's schemes slowly. It's my opinion and expressing opinions are what these boards are supposed to be about.

I would have been OK with the pass call on 2nd or 3rd down after trying to bang it in with Mike Rob and Beastmode.

The fact is pass plays on the goal line are far more dangerous than run plays due to how many defensive players are within 10 yards of the ball. So for just that fact alone I'd like to try to see us run the ball on 1st down, even if the other team's looking for it. You've got arguably the best goal line fullback and RB in the league, use em.

Yeah, lets change our offensive coordinator every year so the players will have a new offense to learn every year rather than let them perhaps become expert at the current ones.

I didn't like the playcall because it was designed for Sidney Rice who is 6'4" and can go up and get it. We had DB running that play who is awesome but is only 5'11. I'd make a bet that RW took that into account and that's why the throw was low. I'm no coach but I see no reason why you'd want to throw to a short receiver in the middle of the end zone.

I suppose. But Wilson has the perfect release point, nice and high, to help compensate. He had almost no batted passes at Wisconsin and has had almost none here so far. I'd prefer to see Beast on every play if I could, but I don't think it's quite crazy for Bevell to try it.

I don't think it is crazy to call it either, however, Bevell ran a Wilson rollout/run 2 times in a row the game before, with crappy results and I think you have to trust our strongest offensive play=the run.

The thing I liked best about Bevell's play calling is that he responded to fan analysis. As an article on Field Gulls mentioned in the days leading up to the game, Seattle had failed, in 38 tries on the season, to run even a single time on third down with between 3 and 7 yards to go. Yesterday, we ran 3 times in those situations: Once Turbin just missed the marker, on one Lynch converted and we went on to score a TD, and the last allowed us to turn iffy field goal position into a gimme. Of course, the play calling shift could just be chance, in the same way that it's just chance when you pick the winning numbers in a lottery. Regardless, whether through their own analysis or a little birdie, Seattle decided that throwing in this situation every single time is suboptimal. A 2/3 conversion rate on third downs is great, but we couldn't necessarily expect that. Running probably worked better in these situations because Tampa Bay was overplaying our strong tendency to pass.

In Football Outsiders "Basics" article, they talk about a similar issue.

"Running on third-and-short is more likely to convert than passing on third-and-short.

On average, passing will always gain more yardage than running, with one very important exception: when a team is just one or two yards away from a new set of downs or the goal line. On third-and-1, a run will convert for a new set of downs 36 percent more often than a pass. Expand that to all third or fourth downs with 1-2 yards to go, and the run is successful 40 percent more often. With these percentages, the possibility of a long gain with a pass is not worth the tradeoff of an incomplete that kills a drive.
This is one reason why teams have to be able to both run and pass. The offense also has to keep some semblance of balance so they can use their play-action fakes, and so the defense doesn't just run their nickel and dime packages all game. Balance also means that teams do need to pass occasionally in short-yardage situations; they just need to do it less than they do now. Teams pass roughly 60 percent of the time on third-and-2 even though runs in that situation convert 20 percent more often than passes. They pass 68 percent of the time on fourth-and-2 even though runs in that situation convert twice as often as passes."

[ source: http://www.footballoutsiders.com/info/fo-basics ]

Just as they note that, although running on third and short is more efficient, you still must pass sometimes on third and short, the same logic applies, in reverse, to third and medium. Good to see us get back to that. Now if we'd just quit using empty backfields on third and short.

If you really think he decided to go for it based on the ramblings of one fan - and that's what they were, ramblings - you are a fool
"bevell is too predictable, he got 2nd and 1 and ran three times in a row"
"why didn't bevell run marshawn lynch on the goalline????"

There is no denying that yes, we hadn't run Lynch a single time in those situations, but do you really think these guys who get paid millions to study every single one of these things read an article by a fan and went "oh my god, I didn't realise that, how silly of me. well I'd better fix it?"
