Pete Carroll on Seattle

“It’s still home to me, you know. … I never would have known had I not been hanging around the area this year how much of a connection we have made with the community and the people. The fans and the people that I meet running through the airports, in the streets, wherever we’re going, have been so gracious and it’s… had an obvious effect on me of how we did relate through the time we were together. And I’m really grateful for that. I’m really grateful for that.

“I didn’t have the idea that there was that much of an exchange. Like I said, even in coming here to the Raiders, my job isn’t just the team, to me. It extends beyond that. It extends to our fans and extends to the people that support us and fill our stadium up, make it hard to play in because we’re filling every seat and all that. They’re helping us win so we’re all in this thing together.

“And in taking that effort to Seattle, we were rewarded so extraordinarily because of the the 12s and the way that they love their teams. So it’s an unforgettable relationship and I’m never going to lose connection with that. I just don’t want to and so I’m going do everything I can to stay connected as much as possible.”

That's a good point! Never thought about it until you wrote that. Me? A Raiders fan? Way to go Carroll.

I'll root for Pete but, history etal, rooting for the Raiders may be a little much. Having said that I now don't mind seeing the Broncs enjoy a certain level of success. I didn't think I would ever be able to say that.

Our best coach ever! Funny how as Husky fans we didn’t like him. I’ll always be a fan of Pete! That division is stacked with coaches! Never quite hated the Raiders like the Donks. We got Flores and they got Pete. They got a better deal.

Was anyone else a Raiders fan in the 1970s? If you lived in Seattle in the 60s and 70s, the team they showed on NBC every Sunday were the Raiders. So if you followed football in Seattle, that was your team.

I loved those old AFL teams/games...Raiders, Chiefs, Jets, Steelers...on NBC...

Yep. My Dads second team is the Raiders for this exact reason. He grew up a Raiders fan because that's all they had. Seahawks fan now though.

I've been kind of pulling for the Raiders lately because I'm sure as hell not rooting for the Chiefs or Broncos to win jack crap and the other team in that division is coached by Jim Harbaugh.

But now, I'll be rooting for the Raiders to win, not just win by default.

Pete is one of those people that you really appreciate after they're gone. His mental prowess and positivity is inspiring and amazing to witness. And it comes natural to him. It isn't fake.

I'll always be grateful for the sb run he gave us. An unforgettable and magical period, for sure. I wonder if we'll ever see that again here...

Yep. Kenny Stabler was my favorite player. So much so that calling Jake Plummer "the snake" is another reason I hate the Broncos.
