Schotty's offense is a lot to swallow right away, Austin Davis has played in it with the Rams, Wilson has our offense from last year and just has to learn the other 30 percent or so added and some of the changes, McGough has the whole platter not plate to learn. That and not sure how much his offense in college was on him versus the OC there, Schotty puts a lot of responsibility on the QB.
It pretty much is setting up that McGough will be put on the practice squad this season to learn. I doubt that any other team will sign him off it and allows Davis to back up Wilson one more year. It just makes sense from so many angles. For McGough to pass Davis he would have to really step up in the preseason games and excel. Possible, but a big hurdle to climb.
He’s not mincing his words when he describes it as “struggling.” Austin Davis impressed last year, and it seems he continues to do so. McGough seems like a good p-squad candidate, and maybe he improve enough to run the scout team offense during the season.
They knew he was going to be challenged in learning the play book and making calls. Its why they are focused on giving him a lot of work. It is still early in this controlled process. Plenty of time left between now and the second preseason game. It's fun to follow the progress of a newbie ....... especially when it involves a rookie quarterback.
