How in the world would franchising a slightly above average player be a good choice for the Hawks?

Theyd prefer the team to be good than not, but they'd rather lose cheaply than win expensively.
Is that a typical business model? I guess I just struggle to imagine any owner of a business not wanting that business to be as successful as possible. A championship well run franchise increases the value no? Are there business people looking at the dumpster fire embarrassing NFL franchises and thinking if I ever buy a team that's what I want it to look like?

I really don't get the "cheap" talk, every organization, especially a successful one that just won the Superbowl, has to make consequential decisions about who they keep and who they let walk. The downside of drafting successfully for multiple years on end is that you are going to end up with more than a few guys that you can't afford the 2nd contracts on. We aren't the Raiders or Jets who burn through their draft picks like there's no tomorrow. Letting Walker, Mafe, and Bryant walk was an inevitability. Besides the stretch that Mafe had three seasons ago when he racked up a sack a game for half the season, has he done anything to earn a $20M/year payday? Walker was exceptional this last season, and really turned it up a notch when it counted, but there is a mountain of evidence that half-backs on their 2nd contract rarely earn it, especially if they already have an injury history. And Bryant was a solid mid round pick that successfully transitioned from corner to safety, but he is hardly irreplaceable. Also, let's not forget that we are due to get back three comp picks for those guys next year in a better draft, you know, mid-round picks that Schneider has often hit paydirt with. I'm perfectly fine letting them walk, and waiting to see what happens in the draft, in the "scraps" phase of free agency, with undrafted free agents, during training camp as guys get released closer to cut-down day, etc. The marathon just started and we're near the back of the pack....yeah, but just because half the field sprinted out in front don't mean they are going to contend as we near the 26th mile.

There's no possible way that you actually believe that. That's a reach even for you. They would rather lose cheaply?

I give up.

Go Hawks. SUPER BOWL CHAMPIONS
Absolutely they would. The only people who can afford teams arent in it to win games. They're addicted to making money, and spending as little as possible to make that money.

There is NO POSSIBLE WAY the Seahawks would EVER be happy about losing. EVER.

To borrow a line from the great Anthrax: Talking to you is like clapping with one hand.

I just can't do it anymore. Go Hawks.

So asking for a freind, a person that has to be a multi Billionaire himself to know how those people spend their money or not spend it and do business in this day and age, how much do we spend before we lose out on our priofit margin and have to stick it to those cumbersome fans we have again and listen to them complain.

I hate the effing wait every year to sign that FIRST free agent from ANOTHER team. And then it is usually a disappointment. It does seem cheap.

If you think it's going to be a disappointment, then why are you so worked up about having to wait?
Have a martini and a cig and just relax!!

Every team is trying to get better while the Seahawks do nothing and think only their players are worth anything?

This happens every year here. JS doesn't panic/overpay like a bunch of other teams do. He will methodically replace Walker, Mafe, Woolen & Bryant with a couple free agents and through the draft. I see us trading our #1 (which is basically a #2) for an extra early pick. CB, RG, Edge, RB in no particular order. As the master douche himself once said "RELAX".

1 your thread title was stupid long, 2 your overreacting 3 thank god your not the gm 4 this isnt fantasy football and 5... this thread is a great example of the thread "we will suck next year because...."
The thing is, I get slapped around at times (deservedly so...1% of those times), and I'm not dumb and uninformed. So I gotta figure there are people who are more 'challenged' than myself in football logic. I'm going to try to be nice to them unless they demonstrate that they are both dumb AND evil.

But I really appreciate that you're willing to say what I was thinking.

I think we will miss Bryant but maybe we can find a replacement. We need a RB option but if we can shore up Right Guard our running game should be fine. We won’t have the home run threat that K9 presents but if defense can maintain I’m not worried about it.
Out of everyone that left , Bryant is the one that bugs me .

yeah but I think that us losing him to the Bears may have freed up enough money to re-sign Shaheed.

I'm beginning to think that Coby was more of a priority to re-sign than Rashid but when that attempt at a deal fell through, JS pivoted and here we are.
