It will never happen but I would to see for just 1 year what Jerry could with an open checkbook. He may screw it up completely but we will truly never know with this ownership group. I want to give Jerry the benefit of the doubt. And maybe I'm wrong but he hasn't exactly been given a large amount of resources to work with
The problem is, he's done a really poor job with the resources that he does have to work with the past 2 off seasons.
I posted this last August in this forum,
"2024 contracts,
Teo - $23.5 mil
Geno - $11 mil
Kelenic - $760,000
Total - $35.26 mil
Haniger - $19 mil
Garver - $11.5 mil
Polanco - $10.5 mil
Urias - $5 mil
Total - $46 mil
Not only did Dipoto make this team significantly worse with the moves he made last off season, he paid considerably more to do it. It's astonishing how badly he botched it. Just a complete disaster."
That's what DiPoto did with $46 million last off season. He spent it on Haniger, Garver, Polanco, and Urias after letting go of Teo, Geno, and Kelenic (who would have cost the M's significantly less).
Now he's paid twice as much for Polanco as he could have just re-signed Rojas for. Polanco was only a little worse than Rojas as a hitter, but he was far, far worse on defense, and that's kind of a big deal at "the hot corner".
