I'm surprised that Ben Johnson and the Bears let their offensive coordinator jump ship to the Ravens. Technically, the Ravens were allowed to do it because Doyle doesn't call the plays in Chicago and he will be able to in Baltimore. Still, you would have thought (1) the Bears would have thrown some money at him to keep him and (2) Doyle would have felt some loyalty to Johnson for hiring him as the youngest OC (28) last year.

In unrelated news, Sean Payton fired his offensive coordinator, Joe Lombardi on Wednesday, and then Pete Carmichael, Payton's long-time OC in New Orleans who was an offensive consultant for the Broncos was hired as the Bills' OC on Thursday before Payton could make him the OC. The question I have is (1) did Payton offer him the OC job in Denver? and (2) if so, why did Carmichael jump ship?

Sean Payton probably kinda sucks to work for and maybe he's over it. Dunno if you can call OCing for the Bills a lateral move, but either way, it's really close.

To me, it's a no brainer for Carmichael. He gets to work with Josh Allen and removes himself from being around Sean Payton's narcissism.

Payton's always been a tough guy to work for, but more recently he seems to be more of a jerk, making inappropriate public statements about players and coaches. Carmichael worked for Payton for 18 years in New Orleans, so I would have thought that they had a closer relationship. I think it's the beginning of the end when you start alienating your long-time allies. I mean it was pretty brutal for him to fire his OC (Joe Lombardi) after a 14-3 season.
