When is the last time you've seen a team with a weak offensive line win or even make it to the Superbowl?

Steelers, Colts, Cardinals, Packers...happens all the time.

Our O-line has two Pro Bowlers on it and people call it terrible. I don't think its pass protection is perfect, but I also think its weaknesses are magnified by a gameplan that lusts after the long-developing play and a QB who invites holds from his linemen by occasionally holding onto the ball and/or scrambling around for twenty seconds. I also think the run-blocking could improve, but our FB situation is also a part of that.

This is spot on IMO, nice post.

Pre-snap is going to be huge this week. They're going to move Watt around looking for the weakest link, and I sense we're going to get some pressures that we don't have tape on yet. Wade Phillips is really going to try to confuse our QB and line. We need Unger this week. The more we can sniff-out pre-snap, the more I like our chances. I kind of sense an ugly game this week with some pressure, but hopefully we can run it well enough to put them on their heels and hit a big play or two against the blitz. If Russell has one of those games where he tries to hold it and dance, it might get a little yucky. Houston has some guys that can run with him.

So, Okung Out, Unger Out, and Breno questionable.

Looks like we have once again achieved rag-tag status......Sheeze.
For the record, Unger practiced today (Thursday), so, at this point he's probably 'IN'. Breno did not practice, but he has not officially been ruled out.

We may want to go into every game with all of our best players 100% and on the field, but that's simply not reality in the NFL. I think our OL will be ok with help from TE's, RB's, scheming and tempo. Worry less about what the defense is going to TRY to do, focus more on what our offense WILL do. Hit'em where they ain't :)

Unger may play, but his practice was of the limited variety and he will be far from 100% and if I were DC of Houston, I would be attacking that spot.

They are going to put pressure on us this week, it would be great if we can plug rookies in and have it work but here is to hoping the defense has their best game yet.

definitely this right here. Thankfully we have a quick qb. If their crowd is too loud, I still think Russ could take snaps under the center and get the hell out on a bootleg; Tavaris... Probably won't be seeing any of his sick bombs.

Is Russ only capable of counterclockwise spin move? I wanna see that blue steel.

Which is pretty much how it was at certain points last year when he made the Pro-Bowl and All-Pro. There is no such thing as a healthy football player. Players are held out and limited all the time.

It happens ALL the time. The Ravens OL is no better. Nor were the Giants. The Steelers line was a patchwork of scrubs. One could look at playoff teams and see a similar trend. Great OL players doesn't equate to playoff success. SF has a real problem on their hands, as their salary structure is going to be so heavily tied in the OL, that they're going to have difficulty acquiring and retaining impact players where it matters most.

The OL, while important, doesn't demand you commit top value to be championship caliber. There just isn't a solid correlation between having the best OL in the league and playoff success.

FieldGulls is quoting Carroll as saying this morning that Breno and Unger are unlikely to play.

Thanks, BFS.

Good news. Hopefully we score, and score some more. I want the second stringers getting in some work.

I think we have some good/capable depth and a great O-Line coach and between the two Seattle should be just fine.

Oh my gawd I'm freaking out and speculating. I simply was parroting what I heard on Kiro radio yesterday.

It said his arm wasn't in good shape and he is questionable, which in essence saying he has a 25% chance to play.

You guys are really something. Rag on every post that anyone makes.

If you don't like it, don't read it and/or comment.

You said Unger was OUT. People commented because they wanted to know where you heard it. How can you not expect that reaction?
You said BRENO was questionable, not Unger.

Unger is OUT.......are you happy calling me a troll in my own thread. Weakling.

INCORRECT.

Carroll said after practice today that he will be a game-time decision and we will all be monitoring this situation very closely.

How many pass attempts over 15 yards you think we'll see in this game? Or sacks waiting for deep routes to develop...
Well see plenty of long pass attempts. We won't see much 'waiting for deep routes to develop". Instead we'll see lots of Wilson scrambling.

I doubt we'll run well against them, which means not a good PA passing situation. Expect lots of rollouts and screens instead.

Houston's corners have been called suspect. Idk how true that is, but if Baltimore can rack up points on them, then we should be able to have some semblance of an offense, even with our oline. From the sounds of Texan fans and sports writers, Houstons offense is in horrible shape. I think our special teams keeps them pinned deep, giving us good field position and that will result in us slowly grinding out a win. Expecting plenty of FG's and maybe a TD or two.
