Look, I'm not the conspiracy theory type. And I know we commit them, oh, no doubt. But I've seen players "get away" with more in other teams.

Also, isn't is curious that even a ref from our SB loss admitted being wrong.

Now it's a stretch to say it goes to the top, that the league doesn't like the Seahawks. And that if that was the case certainly a whistleblower would have caved and we would know.

I'm just sick and tired of "feeling like" we get the second class citizen treatment among refs in most our games, and especially the more important ones.

I'm probably just imagining this.

Are we really the 2nd most penalty ridden team, or penalty call "susseptible" team?

I think Tampa bay. But that's just what I remember hearing.

We play the ragged edge. We just do. It backfires sometimes.

THe offensive holding calls are the ones that piss me off. most of the rest are the cost of doing business.

Isn't TB horrible on the offensive line too? Probably not a coincidence.

Yeah but we are a physical team that prides itself on fighting to the whistle and taking advantage of all the rules in the secondary in regards to using the full 5 yards of contact, can hand check until the ball is in the air, once QB is out of the pocket you can hit WR's, etc, etc.

When you're physical and beat the crap out of people every week you're going to get hit with some penalties imo.

Also we're still a fairly young team and Pete isn't quite a disciplinarian so these things can happen. It would be nice to see Pete yell every once in a while tho.

That said, it certainly does seem like ref's are keenly aware of our playstyle and are ready to react accordingly. The problem I have is that it's so inconsistent from game to game it's hard to get used to it.

When every coach that we have played against in the last two years bend the ear of the referees on how rough our DB's play and how every talking head talks about how rough our DB's play, I believe the referees will look hard at our DB's. On offense when we have a WR like Golden who is flamboyant and very talkative it really makes it easier for the ref's to throw flags. I don't think the Seahawks have adjusted to the calls and thus we are and will continue to be a highly penalized team.

Tampa Bay? No, they have a good offensive line(at least at run blocking). But do get called for holding a lot. It was doing research on the ref crew yesterday and how they called games vs Tampa bay that led me to assume it would be a flag fest before the game was played. Tampa plays an aggressive style kind of like we do, and Betteman's crew has been real hard on them.

Does the league refs let other teams have liberties the Hawks are not equally afforded? That is my question.

The 2012 Ravens were the most penalized team in the league. Niners made the bowl, they were one of the most penalized teams last year.

Preseason: Refs call every damn thing.
Season: you get more calls at home than on the road.
Postseason: For the most part, they let people play. (SBXL is the outlier)

I think its a problem around the league, calls are not consistant. Look at NE, they have lost two games this year because of calls that I know of, the pushing from behind call, and the hold in the endzone on Gronk. Then theres the call on Brooks during the NOLA game with us, not saying it wasn't a penalty because it was a close call, but in the same game Kaep gets headlock tackled, and no call. I really think we need full time refs and at least some kind of grading system to make sure they're performing their jobs correctly.

The truth is that if you want to win the games, you have to test the limits on penalties.

Spot on.

Of course, NE won a game yesterday because of a bogus PI, so it goes both ways.

Make up call for the Gronk non-call a few weeks earlier. That's their way of equalizing. :sarcasm_on:

The NFL is a business first and foremost. It's a business that generates a ridiculous amount of revenue. The Seahawks are a "lesser" product when compared to products like the Patriots, NY teams, Pittsburgh, 49'ers, Cowboys, etc. I'd suppose you would put more energy into supporting the top products. While not a software guy, I'd assume that software companies devote more funds, time, effort, to the most desirable products than those on the lower end of their offerings. The Bettis Disney story couple with a "beloved" team for a storybook ending is great for business and profitability, why wouldn't your business work to make that outcome happen? It is not a stretch to say that the NFL would not work to promote its preferred products over one like the 'Hawks.

With that said, the 9'ers game was more of the Seahawks playing poorly, than an "orchestrated" outcome. The Hawks played sloppy, did not execute, and were not crisp at all. The 9'ers were the better team yesterday, simple as that. As for future meetings, it is advantage Seahawks unless Kap matures. His body language and facial expression after failed plays is on par with how Cam Newton used to be - though he (Cam) seems a bit better in controlling that these days. While immensely physically gifted, Kap does not exude leadership intangibles - at least on the surface, behavior, interviews - maybe he is different in the locker room. Also, if he does not progress beyond 1 read and run, his NFL success will be markedly limited. What is interesting to me though, is how hard the NFL works to promote this guy. Could explain a lot of the Buck, Aikman, Oliver love fest. Of the three, certainly Aikman has to see all the glaring deficiencies that Kap has, yet he goes over the top in managing him up as well. If the NFL has hitched their wagon to making Kap a star, they will of course work hard to promote this product.

In tying this altogether, penalties would be an easy way for the business of the NFL to control their product placement so to speak. While I don't think the 9'ers game was penalty driven so much to change the outcome, the potential certainly exists. I think the Hawks have been jobbed far worse in other games. I'd watch penalties going forward though, as I'd think they would not want Hawk HFA throughout in an effort to spice up the playoff product.

The league has a hard on for us it's BS .

Here we go, it's a conspiracy theory!

BS, what makes us a great team is also our worst enemy, over-aggressiveness. Sorry dude, but we deserved EVERY one of those penalties yesterday. Sherm held like a mo-fo, Robinson did shove his hand into the D-Lineman's face and Schofield did run into the punt returner for no reason. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.

This teams plays fast, loose and aggressive. The downside is this sort of play leads to penalties.

Dude the NFL doesn't send out a reporter to do a hatchet job on us with the lead official for no reason pull your head out your butt. There is a LONG history of us getting hosed from the NFL refs that's a fact not a theory do you know the difference, I guess not .
