I've heard some commentators claim that rivalries are made, usually within the division, when we beat opponents in their house. At what point does this become true for us? Because if this is true... well, we've just beaten both the Cards and Rams in their place this season (though we lost at both last year).

Yet it still feels like our toughest rival and rivalry is SF, mostly because of record, matchups, and perceived strength in the league.

What creates real rivalries like the old Steelers/Ravens? How much do classnessness, cheap shots on the field, trash-talk off of it, etc., contribute to this? Just curious going forward.

Go Hawks!

No question SF is our #1 rivalary and nothing else is close. The teams are both very good, the coaches hate each other and so do the fans. Plus they're the closest team geographically to Seattle as well.

"Rivalry" seemed to have been the way to describe many of the games played this past weekend, as several of these rivalry games were played throughout the league.

Giants/Eagles
Vikings/Packers
Patriots/Dolphins
etc., etc., etc.

So, calling Seahawks/Rams a rivalry seems fitting enough to me.

It takes time... I mean SF is our current "rival" because the two teams are so close in talent and goals. in the Holmgren era it was St. Louis.

to make it last, like a Packers-Bears (ask any Packer fan and thats the "true" rivalry), Cowboys-Redskins, Patriots-Jets may take a decade or more.

For me, while i'm annoyed at the 49ers, the Rams are the closest "rival" we have in the NFC. i think alot of fans 30+ would all say the Raiders are the Hawks true enemy. its waning, sure, and the 9ers may surpass all. I think the competitiveness of the QB situation and relationship of the coaches lends it to becoming one of the all time rivalries over the next decade.

I guess in terms of rivalry, beating the Rams meant more several years ago, IMO. But the interdivision fight seems a consistent part of "rivalry."

Taking down the niners in SF should add fuel to this current fire; I think what JonRud said above is true. If these two teams remain highly competitive for several more years, it's going to be the new standard.

On the field, the Rams have played us tougher than the 9ers lately. For us fans, though, the 9er rivalry stands alone.

I feel being competitive not only in the game itself, but in the standings over time is important. The Rams may play us tough, but overall they are losers. Doesn't make for much of a rivalry when it is only for 3 hours, twice a tear.

This may sound odd, but I always felt like St.Louis is our real rival from back in the greatest show on turf days.
san fran is more of the flavor of the week. in two years when they're contracts are out of control and they have to let people go we won't even remember having beef with these guys.
Arizona is pretty chippy to.........

Perhaps in the eyes of some. However, I predict that this will continue to be our toughest in Division rival.

I think that SF is going to remain our toughest opponents as well. Rams have the potential to make some noise, but I'm not sold on their roster right now. Their d-line is no joke and they have a great HC.

I can see how the Seahawks and Rams would play on a kind of "rivalry week" considering the 9ers were completely irrelevant until a couple years ago to the Rams and Seahawks since the realignment.

As long as the Rams keep Bradford they will not be a threat. No threat means no rivalry.

No, the Seahawks NFC WEST Rivals for the top spot are the 49rs for now.
The lowly Rams are rivaling the Cards to see which belongs in the cellar of the NFC WEST.
We need somebody to put up a graph showing where the Rams have fallen behind since their glory days when they were the "Greatest Show On Turf"
The 49rs were pretty obscure for one hell of a long time after their glory days, but have finally put up the numbers to compete for their place at the apex of that graph, and the Seahawks are the ONLY team ON THE TOP at this juncture, who should even be considered their rivals.
Dusts off, and exits :vodka:

How long does the "flavor of the month" sort of rivalry continue simmering before it becomes a given in discussions of the great ones in the NFL?

I still hate the Rams quite a bit. But I do have to say that my hate for the Broncs has only just started to wane in maybe the last 2-3 years. I hate Elway and still love the fact that we made him cry once.
