In another topic, a few knowledgeable Seahawk fans thought Earl Thomas was more valuable than Richard Sherman even though the national media has no clue about Thomas. This got me thinking about which players on the Seahawks are the most valuable.

Top-20 (In Order) Most Valuable and Productive Seahawks for 2013:

1. Russell Wilson
2. Earl Thomas
3. Richard Sherman
4. Marshawn Lynch
5. Chris Clemons

6. Russell Okung
7. KJ Wright
8. Kam Chancellor
9. Percy Harvin
10. Max Unger

11. Brandon Mebane
12. Zach Miller
13. Bobby Wagner
14. Chris Avril (likely candidate to move up)
15. Antoine Winfield (likely candidate to move up)

16. Red Bryant
17. Sydney Rice
18. Brandon Browner
19. Golden Tate
20. James Carpenter (expect him to move up a lot if he stays healthy)

Most controversial:
-Earl Thomas ahead of Richard Sherman
-KJ Wright way ahead of Bobby Wagner
-Zach Miller ahead of Sidney Rice;
-Winfield and Avril should probably be ranked higher, but I don't know them that well and I'm not sure how they will fit in.

One thing is for sure, the Seahawks have a *lot* of talent, and more is on the way because Carroll always develops a few incoming players out of college every year.

What does your ranking look like?

sidney rice is still our #1 receiver. so she should probably be higher even though harvin will be more productive - rice being there makes it happen.

I Like this list , it does point to how much talent we have on this team.

If I were to argue it would be with Clemons at 5. if we're assuming players on the list are coming back healthy and at full potential then Red Bryant should be ahead of Clemons. He anchors our run defense and it struggled while he was hurt last year.

OK, I'll bite
Top-20 (In Order) Most Valuable and Productive Seahawks for 2013:

1. Russell Wilson
2. Earl Thomas
3. Percy Harvin
4. Russell Okung
5. Richard Sherman
6. Marshawn Lynch
7. Cliff Avril
8. Christine Michael
9. Max Unger
10. Bobby Wagner
11. Kam Chancellor
12. Brandon Mebane
13. Golden Tate
14. KJ Wright
15. Zach Miller
16. Antoine Winfield
17. Sydney Rice
18. Brandon Browner
19. Jordan Hill
20. Bruce Irvin
21. J.R. Sweezy

Not controversial:
- Earl Thomas ahead of Richard Sherman
- Expecting difference-making plays from Percy Harvin

More controversial:
- Christine Michael getting a lot of reps and being almost as valuable as Lynch, breaking some big 4th quarter runs, game-winners, after Lynch has worn the D down
- Cliff Avril in the top 10, leaving Clemons off the list altogether (if healthy, he's #7 and Avril slides down)
- Not having Michael Bennett on the list at all; I probably should, just don't know his play enough
- Expecting Jordan Hill to have a significant impact as a rookie. I debated between him and Tha Monstar, and Hill won the coin flip
- Bruce Irvin left of OP's list, I expect Irvin to find additional niche roles in this defense, maybe even in coverage sometimes, and just to be a valuable force on the field
- Leaving Carpenter off the list and putting Sweezy on it as my #21 bonus pick. I expect Sweezy to not suck at pass pro this year as well as continue being a dominating run blocker.

It's hard to pick just 20 from this talented group without slighting some awesome players!

I'm not gonna get into it too far cuz I don't want to start a popularity contest that turns allies into adversaries, but I'm not convinced Russell Wilson deserves to be ahead of Marshawn Lynch.

I'm certain I am in the minority there. And I'm NOT certain I believe what I'm saying, myself.

But, last year, I'd make the argument that Wilson benefitted from Lynch more than vice versa.

Add Percy Harvin and Wilson's emergence to the mix in 2013 and I'm not confident I will feel the same after this season.

In fact, I think Wilson may well win the NFL MVP award.

But this team is so sickly stacked on both sides of the ball that he probably wouldn't get my vote.

She?!?...anyway 20 is too much for me given I know nothing and also think all 53 are most valuable.

As of now, I think you'd have to say that Russell and Marshawn are pretty much 1a and 1b. This upcoming season though, that might change. I'm not predicting a Marshawn Lynch s***show or anything (he's one of my favorite players of all-time and I just bought the new Air Griffey's that are basically the Air Marshawn's in my mind), in fact I think 'Shawn will have another fantastic season, and one where injuries will play less of a factor down the stretch. Still, my grown man love for Marshawn aside, that's how damn good I think Russell Wilson is going to be. I'm thinking he is going to be the clear, #1 elite player on the Seattle Seahawks when all is said and done, and the dust seattles, I mean settles, at MetLife with Russell Wilson hoisting the Lombardi Trophy, thinking of how proud and how happy his father would be for him. Sorry, I tend to get carried away with my Seahawks 2013/2014 fantasies, especially Meadowlands/MetLife ones.

I think Sidney Rice and Brandon Browner are pretty underrated on the original list, Percy Harvin as well. I think Harvin is going to have a dynamic impact and it'll mainly affect his old friend, Sidney Rice. Sid proved that he could play for a full season, and don't forget that he took some big shots along the way (Bears game for the win, Cards game on a pass from Flynn where he just got lit up horrifically in the only Cardinals highlight of the game). I think this is the year we see Sidney put it all together for the Hawks. Remember, his best season as a pro came with who else alongside him? That's right, Percy Harvin. Don't be surprised if you hear Wilson to Rice for 6 as much as Vikings fans heard Favre to Rice for 6 a few years ago. I'm expecting a ton of Patriots-esque plays from Wilson/Rice this season.

Browner is my boy, and I've always gotta defend him. I think his attitude and the identity he brings to the defense are actual tangible things, even though they can't be measured, if that makes any sense at all (I know it doesn't). There should be a ride at Six Flags where you just go up against a virtual Brandon Browner for 5 minutes. They couldn't do it because they'd leave people scared for life. His "smack em around" quote with regards to Santana Moss and Pierre Garcon is one of my all-time favorite Seahawks national soundbites. In my mind, Brandon Browner and Marshawn Lynch epitomize Pete Carroll's Seattle Seahawks. Russell Wilson may epitomize all that is right with humanity, but when it comes to the Seahawks under PC/JS, I think of nasty, hard hitting, even harder working Goliaths that get off on not only beating the opposition, but inflicting pain upon them almost as importantly. Russell Wilson, Richard Sherman, Kam Chancellor, and many others epitomize the "overlooked, chip on the shoulder" type that has infected this team, but when it comes to just straight up hurting the opposition I've got to go with Browner and Lynch, with a nod to Giacomini as a first alternate.

Interesting list though. Got the ole brain goin.

Awesome post. Now you have me expecting lots of Rice big plays and TD's this year as defenses piss themselves trying to account for Harvin, and Wilson passes up a doubled Harvin and hits a singled Rice while the safety is worrying about Harvin. While Tate benefits too, Rice probably benefits the most.

Couldn't agree more about Browner. And yes, his attitude and identity he brings to the 'Hawks D are very tangible and real, and CAN be measured. Just ask Wes Welker. And remember that play (I think against Carolina) where Browner stuffed Cam Newton on an option, and that was a game-saver.
Another thread had a Brandon Browner interview, where he mentions his all-time favorite play as the pick-6 against Eli and the Giants on the road that turned a defeat into a victory and served notice that these were NOT your father's soft Seahawks. I felt that was the moment the current smashmouth Seahawks came of age, and Brandon Browner was smack in the middle of it.

Yeah olyfan, I think Sid's going to have a great season for the reasons you mentioned. Tate too, but like you, I think Rice benefits a little bit more from having Percy around. I'm just picturing the New England game, Wilson to Rice for the game winner, and I'm combining that with the images I have in my head from when the Vikings went nuts that season and Sidney was making plays all over the place, especially down field. The offensive coordinator at the time in Minnesota? Our very own Darrell Bevell. So we've got guys that are extremely comfortable with the system and a coach that best knows how to utilize these weapons. It's a VERY exciting time for the Seahawks offense.

And totally agree about Browner. I was at that Giants game and it'll always be one of the best moments of my life, period. No exaggeration either. It was my equivalent to being at BeastQuake. The euphoria I felt when I saw that he was going to take it the other way, the Hawks were going to win, and that it was Brandon Browner that made the play made for an amazing moment. I was a huge Browner fan when he was at Oregon State and had followed his journey into the NFL and then the CFL. I never thought he'd end up playing for the Hawks by any stretch of the imagination but he did and now look at him. That Carolina play was clutch, as was his stop at the 1 yard line that forced the Panthers to go for it and ultimately fail and lose the game. The dude plays like a gladiator out there, a warrior. A straight up hero. Plus, he seems like a dude you just wouldn't want to mess with in real life. His "smack em around a couple times" comment is one of my favorite quotes by a Seahawk, ever, and his clowning of Winston Guy on the Real Rob Report clearly got into Winston's head. Seems like a straight up, real dude and the world just can't get enough of those.
