Guys, this isn't the packers. We don't own part of the team. IF WE DID we might have a legitimate case for being pissed, but as it stands now Mr. Allen didn't veto the move so we have to trust that Pete and John are doing this for the good of the team.

Just because we like a player doesn't mean it's the best for the team. They probably know something we don't know.

I don't need you to tell me if I have a right to be pissed or not.

Knowing what we (apparently) know now, I can only imagine the affect losing Harvin initially had on Pete and Bevell. But I think Golden Tate will soon benefit from their well laid plans and we will run this offence as though Harvin was in it. Just a hunch...I could be wrong.
interesting.
:snack:

All of 2012, Tate was described as "a poor man's Percy Harvin". Next thing you know...Harvin's a Hawk and Tate was none to happy about that. I think his bro RW likely used the Harvin signing to motivate him and with Harvin removed, I expect Wilson and Tate will become the new dynamic duo of the NFL. I would feel that way even if I were not a Hawks fan.

A few things after catching up on this thread:

1. I am going to try not to attack posters personally, but let me say that I would rather read a thousand posts that are distraught about losing a player that is well-liked, even if those posts are sometimes over-the-top, than read one post by someone whining about how distraught people are. We know that it's a business. It's a business when your company lays you off, too. That doesn't mean that you should take it in stride and move on. Yeah, this isn't as affecting for anyone as losing a job, but it is affecting. I cannot imagine what good your holier-than-thou posts are doing.

2. Anytime Hawkblogger gets too big in his britches about this, just remind him that his columns where he was in the tank for Matt Flynn are still up on the internet and a demonstration of his strategy: Skip Bayless-like harping on points until he gets one right and then reminding everyone how right he was.

3. Assuming that this isn't just a MRob being sick/money thing and that it also indicates that the FB position will be less important this season and in seasons to come, do you all think that we see more 2 and 3TE sets, predominantly? More four-wides (something I think we need to really do more of with the WR talent we have)?
Completely agree with #1.

I understand the move. I'm not surprised by the move. But goddamn it let me bitch!

Ok I'm done now

I just saw a new trailer for Eastbound and Down, so, is it really a sad night? No. No, its not.

If he gets signed by the 9ers and tells them all our g14 classified stuff I'm moving to Cleveland and rooting for the Browns.

I already added substance a few pages earlier. I am saying you are jumping the gun calling Wilson a top 5 quarterback. When Robinson was with the 49ers I found him extremely over rated. His value to the team was mostly on special teams and I was happy when we didn't retain him. We had a fullback in Moran Norris and Robinson was basically a duplicate of what Anthony Dixon brings now for us now but Robinson lacked power to pick up the short yards. After he left, he turned into a pretty good fullback. However, I wouldn't trade him for Bruce Miller.

I don't have to prove to you anything lol.

You didn't have to prove anything, but you sure tried to.

We'll agree to disagree on Wilson. I don't do the "Kap vs Wilson" thing. It's stupid.

But, if it makes you feel better "KaP SuCKS...DAAAAAARRRR!". I'm sure you'll find 12 threads like that in the NFL forum.

Neither are a top 5 quarterback right now. Both have the potential to be.

Brees, Brady, Rodgers, and both Manning brothers have proven far more in this league. Even Matt Ryan has.

Wont be that bad...IF its true Lebron's returning. And, you already look like Brandon Weeden.

I do think there is a chance a 4th TE makes the squad. I like that Helfert fellow. He wasn't bad last year either. He showed me a little something yesterday.

Upon reflection, the idea that MRob may be sicker than anyone is letting on seems to have a lot of merit, so it may not all be just about salary.

Anyway, best of luck MRob. Thanks for starting off Pete and John's vision and being the kind of player that I respect. Both on and off the field.

Publicly, Sherm is shocked. Privately, he is adding 2.5 mil to his contract demands next year.

I don't know for sure that Robinson is actually gone for good.

I KNOW a bit of the outrage is because the link to seeing inside the locker room has been severed, for now. But none of these outraged people know the extent of his illness.

Also, Robinson had a reduced role as the use of the read option grew. He is not a good runner.

This thread is not about QBs. That topic has been discussed ad nauseam in the NFL section. I don't see why you care if MRob is cut and your presence in trying to somehow make this about the 9ers is really annoying.

Don't like it. I can understand it.

Barring disaster, we have the epic QB this franchise lacked for years. We needed a true fullback when our QB situation was more up in the air.

Our WR situation is the best I can remember it, provided PH can return and contribute. We will run plenty but it's doubtful we will be so run reliant. One large reason we were so run happy last year was limiting the playbook for RW.

I've been critical of Darrell Bevell but he is a genius offensively. MRob wouldn't be gone if Bevell couldn't scheme out his absence on the field.

NO ! No, no no no no no no.

Ummmm, no.

Coleman isn't near the lead blocker that Robinson is. I know this is a business move, but freakin Farwell better be cut as well. Harper isn't ready, and this hurts our team. I really think this is going to effect our run game negatively.

Somewhere, Whiners fans are dancing. We just cut a Pro Bowl player to save a couple mil.

What? Don't get this move. Thought Mike Rob was a key part of our running game. He helped open lanes for Lynch.

I remember the games he wasn't in, our run game got stuffed! Don't like this at all unless the young guys can fill this spot better.

He played all 16 games in 2012.

Right, and our run game dominated. I challenge you to look back at the games MRob was not in, prior to last year.

You mean with T-Jax at QB? mmkay.

My thoughts exactly. Yes, Pete wants to run the ball. Who don't? But Pete's never had a QB this good and he wants to win a SB more than he wants his back to win a rushing title. I think we look more like 50-50 this year.

I also predict Farwell to be cut as he is basically just a Special Teams specialist and has a high salary comparatively. We could afford players like him the past, but not anymore. I could be totally wrong, but I can definitely see it.

I'm not buying he's coming back. I'm fully expecting Bevell and Cable to go all-in with; H-backs, flankers, shotgun formations with Tate/Lynch or Lynch/Michael.

Robinson was never a Cable type. And, a traditional FB isn't anywhere near the direction this team's going. I expect some funky shit...and its going to be awesome.

The thing is, having a good running game really really helps a QB.

Russell is a very very good QB, but he did have help in having a good running game that kept the defense off balance and since our line has issues with pass blocking - having a solid running game meant we could wear down the defensive line so that when they did have to rush the passer they had a lot less energy and speed left.

The idea that just because we have a good QB we don't need the running game is dangerous. How effective is the play action going to be if teams can stuff the run?

My solace is that maybe we still can keep Robinson, we just have to resign him at a lower salary if nobody else signs him. But if we keep the current substandard FB crop I can assure you that Wilson is going to find his numbers and effectiveness impacted. If nothing else because the pass blocking problems are going to be much more obvious with much less focus needing to be put on the run.

A truly bad decision. I trust JSPC same as anyone but I cant agree with this. Unless his sickness was ruling him out for the season or something. His role im our running game was massive, there is no denying that fact.
