FWIW, I think this is the right move. It's a difficult cut, but a needed one for the long-term benefit of the organization.

I remember the games he wasn't in, our run game got stuffed! Don't like this at all unless the young guys can fill this spot better.

Even though he was a QB, Robinson is a pretty traditional FB. Cable's a VERY progressive offensive mind. He doesn't want a typical fullback, if he even has to roll with one.

He played all 16 games in 2012.

It does save a tiny bit of money, but overall I think the FO made a mistake. This move was penny wise, pound foolish, and it will be a detriment to our run offense. If that means Seattle is emphasizing the pass more this season, then okie-dokie, but otherwise, this is just a silly move. If they just wanted to save cash, there were smarter ways of doing it.

Agree with you 100% kearly. This move makes very little sense if it was about the money as we only save about 1 million in cap room. The drop in blocking ability from mike rob to Coleman is huge.kearly":2gb6axoz said:After watching Coleman very closely this preseason, I hate this move. The loss of Hutch killed our running game. Suddenly Alexander became mortal, not because he was old but because he could no longer just run behind two guys that had the impact of someone driving a couple of minvans through the opposing d-line.
Things are very different now but we absolutely depend on the run. We use the run to set up the pass and frankly I am mystified how we think we are going to get the same production from the run game now.
A good run game depends on good blocking from your TEs and your FB first. We are thin at TE, so if one goes down we are in real trouble. Now we are relying on FBs with little or no experience in real games to offset that? Lynch is a stud but he still is going to need help keeping linebackers off him.
You don't think that might affect the running game?

Watching highlights and seeing them look synchronized, and also the fact that we, in Seattle, are used to a Fullback and without MRob there ain't a functional blocking fullback on the Roster.
Add in the fact that we really liked him and there you have the angst.
As a fan, I'll get wrapped up in players and personalities and enjoy them while they are here and the Front Office can deal with making tough personnel decisions. They are getting paid, we're just paying for the privilege of being fans (buyings stuff, going to games, etc).
I just shake my head when folks will come in here and compare us to fans across the league. Not every franchise has fans who wear their emotions on their sleeves, who refuse to leave the 4th Pre-Season game in the 4th qtr even though the starters only played a little while. New England fans? I don't care how stoic they are. They ain't the 12th man we are.
We fall in love with individuals on this team. So what. I also love John and Pete and their personalities and trust that they will make the right decisions.

I think you're wrongly assuming that Coleman is going to get all MRob's snaps. I've thought that our TE's when playing fullback this preseason have looked great. I expect to see more two tight end lineups with one of them lined up as an h-back/fullback type.
Also Spencer Ware, though not a blocking force could be a John L Williams type fullback. As a true weapon with the ball in his hands.

Guess I just really am a traditionalist and see a good fb as something every team needs, especially for or offense and we had one, plus, Mikes leadership is something that will be very hard to replace.

I can't understand the "thinking" here. He can't physically play for a couple more weeks minimum. He's lost weight/strength. Do you carry a guy his age at a normally 1 deep position if he's unable to play, sure if he's your starting QB but not the FB. This will also allow the Hawks to sign him to a better contract and it won't be fully guaranteed. This wasn't a "just save money move". Who knows, he may not reach the level of play that made him so valuable. He could be back in a couple weeks and blasting holes again for Marshawn. This move doesn't necessarily mean that Coleman will automatically be the FB week one. I trust these guys. They want to win.
