Fourth Down: Mike Carey’s officiating crew.

Carey’s crew will work this year’s Super Bowl, and based on Sunday, that is at least a little bit troublesome.

The first quarter proved particularly problematic for Carey’s group — the officials awarded a fumble to the Colts, despite Marshal Yanda emerging from a pile with the ball (and announced that possession belonged to “Indiana”); they flagged Indianapolis for a very questionable pass interference penalty, turned the other way on two potential face masks; and they ended the day with a dubious “defenseless receiver” call on Bernard Pollard.

All in all, low marks for the officials in this game.

No point worrying about things you can't control. Go win by 30 and the officiating doesnt matter.

I read this early today and thought it was common knowledge but when posting in another thread it appeared no one knew so I posted it as a seperate thread for comment.
I think we can still win inspite of him!

Carey's regular crew is horrendous, but I don't think this is his regular season crew. It's a crew of officiating "All Stars". Carey's regular crew is like watching a bunch of school girls call penalties because...ewww, that was just mean, why did you have to hit that man so hard? I'm calling a 15 yard penalty on you for playing football! Meany!

I hear u but man the crew was horrendeous this last week end. I can not believe that we can get screwed by the officials in 2 different SB's.

So I am believing we get there and do the business in solid fashion so even the Officials cant take it away from us.

Well at least it won't be all of Carey's crew, so the horrible official should be just Carey.

EDIT: NVM looks like hes got his whole crew as well. Crap.

Does that mean the NFL likes the way he officiates? Good lord.

This is a team that plays through terrible officiating and still wins!

Man, I may just have to give the SB a skip if our Hawks aren't in it. Carey is the epitome of ticky-tack; he ruins the experience of watching a football game.

No, it means they've already got the guy they want lined up to make sure Peyton gets another ring.

Look, if the Hawks get to the Super Bowl we better hope they either utterly dominate completely and thoroughly from the opening whistle or our team is playing the Texans if we want to see a victory (the league has no investment in Houston so officiating likely would be fair). Ravens = Ray Lewis retirement/goodbye just like Bettis in XL*. Patriots mean a 4th ring for the Northeast darling (only time they lose a SB is to a NY team). Denver means a 2 week media mass jack off over what all Peyton has overcome and how awesome he is and......yadda, yadda, yadda.
