I disagree with the idea that Mike’s not involved in the offense. I think it’s far more likely that he’s just playing it close to the vest like he does with injuries. He’s not gonna tell you more than he has to.
I think working with Kubiak for a year has shown him the model that he wants to follow in order to build a kind of tough minded offense that matches up with our defense.
He clearly wants to establish complementary football and that’s what I’ve seen growing since he got here.

if your admitting to trolling him to get a rise, wisely rethink it.

Like this guy?

But between Grubb straight up ignoring him for a year while he stared at his shoes mumbling "I know, we gotta run the ball more", and some of KK's shennanigans in the first half of the season.

Just wish he'd flex his muscles a bit more on the OCs. He is the boss ya know.
There is nothing to suggest Macdonald is ignoring the offense. Macdonald is not only an intelligent guy, he's a bit of a micromanager. Everything points to his deep involvement with every aspect of the team. He clearly did not let Kubiak dictate the offense on his own this past season.

Kubiak said he felt a lot of pressure from Macdonald all year, and that he was under the microscope, having to answer for everything that he did. He said he came to hate looking Macdonald in the eye and answering his questions.

Macdonald just doesn't seem like the kind of guy who would overlook any small detail of the team. He's clearly involved in every phase of the game.

Yep...pretty sure he put a stop to some of the stuff that was going on in the first part of the season. The stuff like the play to Milroe...OUCH!!!

No doubt. Coach Mike wasn't having it. Clearly not a coincidence that we never saw that cute crap play again.

My personal opinion (with no facts to back it up) is that the Milroe run plays were Macdonald's idea. Macdonald drafted Milroe and he saw what havoc a running QB could create from his time in Baltimore with Lamar Jackson. Whereas Kubiak is all about the drop back passer.

On draft day, Macdonald said that Milroe is not Taysom Hill, but he did say that people were going to see his athleticism and that he would be on the field sooner rather than later. And in the press conference after that game with the failed Milroe play, Macdonald said that that play was not coming out of the playbook and that Milroe was going to keep playing.

The fact that a play didn't work a couple of times doesn't mean it can't work. I want to see them use Milroe to his full advantage. If we see Milroe playing this year, we'll know it wasn't Kubiak pushing for it.

As a defensive guy, one of MM's priority for the offense is to stay on the damn field. You can win a few games a year with the defense being on the field for 35-40 minutes and beyond, but that's gonna wear on you and get your defense feeling in December/January like they're all in their 40s if it happens too often.

Modern offenses have been so focused on points scored and big plays, that the 3 and out rates are growing. When the defense gets the ball back to the offense, they want to sit more than 3 minutes on the bench. A big part of "complementary football" is time of possession and clock management that keeps both sides of the ball fresh.

This subject brought up by the OP is a great talking point and I find it very interesting.

That being said, I don’t have an answer and I’m not sure there is an exact right response from Macdonald on how to approach this season. I’m going to assume that he’s going to have to be a bit more involved, at least early in the season, being as Fleury has no playcalling experience, so I expect Macdonald to be in Fleurys ear, telling him what to look for situationally.

This very well could be, but also let's not forget, Kubiak came from N.O. and ran plays with Taysom. Could Coach Mac have been in his ear, quite possibly, but, there were a few other plays that Kubiak ran that I don't think (IMHO) were in line with what Macdonald was wanting. Kubiak seemed to be calling a lot more runs in the second half of the season and the "trick" plays seemed to be put on the back burner.
Again, just my opinion.
